New York City-based Special Needs Activity Center for Kids (SNACK) Receives $100,000 Grant from NRG Energy, Inc.
Funding helps maintain “SNACKtivities” afterschool and weekend program
PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Special Needs Activity Center for Kids (SNACK), a New York City-based program that assists children with developmental disabilities, received a $100,000 donation from NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG). NRG’s contribution will go towards SNACK’s comprehensive afterschool and weekend program, “SNACKtivities,” which is designed and staffed to address challenging behavioral issues, increase skill levels and promote improved social interactions among children with developmental disabilities like autism and Attention Deficit Disorder.
“We’re truly grateful to NRG for its ongoing support,” said SNACK founder and executive director Jackie Ceonzo. “Since day one, we’ve sought to enrich the lives of a growing number of children who benefit from our programs. Thanks to NRG’s support, we can continue to expand our efforts and ensure we provide these children the help they need to thrive.”
SNACK was founded in 2003 by Jackie Ceonzo, whose son was diagnosed with autism, as she was unable to find an after school program that accommodated her son’s needs. The nationally recognized organization’s mission is to enrich the lives of children with developmental disabilities like autism, Attention Deficit Disorder and Asperger Syndrome and their families in a fun, creative and welcoming environment. Over the past four years, SNACK (www.snacknyc.com) has grown from serving six to over 150 children per week, ages 3 to 13, in the New York City metropolitan area.
“We find SNACK’s programs to be unique and extremely valuable,” said Crane. “It is important that these children have a constructive, fun and creative environment where they can flourish, and SNACK provides this, and they do it well. We have the utmost respect and admiration for the SNACK team, and we look forward to their continued success.”
The SNACK afterschool and weekend program is one project currently being funded through NRG’s Global Giving initiative. NRG has donated millions of dollars to non-profit organizations that address vital community needs through targeted and sustainable service programs consistent with the Company’s four focus areas: community and economic development, education, environment and human welfare.
