GameStop Launches New Female-Driven Microsite for Madden NFL '09

“Girls Night In” Web Site Gets Women in the Game

GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GameStop, Corp. (NYSE:GME), the world’s largest video game and entertainment software retailer, today announced the launch of its “Girls Night In” Online Playbook and Web site in conjunction with highly anticipated release of Madden NFL ‘09 All Play for the Nintendo Wii by Electronic Arts on Tuesday, August 12. The site, www.gamestop.com/girlsnightin, was designed to help educate wives, moms and girlfriends about the Madden phenomenon and provide easy tips and solutions to help them “stay in the game” this football season.

Women today represent 40 percent of all gamers, according to the International Game Developers Association. And while the Entertainment Software Association reports nearly six out of ten gamers believe there are more games available today that appeal to women than ever before, the evolution calls for additional tools to connect with these growing audiences.

The GameStop “Girls Night In” Web site will serve as an interactive resource for women looking to master the basic football knowledge needed to compete with boyfriends, husbands, friends and even their kids on Madden NFL ‘09. Created in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Madden NFL and the unofficial start to the football season, the “Girls Night In” Online Playbook includes all the ingredients necessary to plan and experience a fun and interactive night. Visitors to the site will also have access to:

  • “Host a Girls Night In Party” – A collection of recipes, supplies and guides to creating your own Mad for Madden event and the ability to submit and view event photos
  • “Football 101” – Tips and advice on how women can brush up on their football terminology and trivia with an extensive Football Playbook and Vocabulary Guide
