Greenberg Traurig Attorney Arthur J. England Jr. Appointed to the Florida Board of Bar Examiners Testing Commission
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Greenberg Traurig Attorney Arthur J. England Jr., a former Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, has been appointed to the Florida Board of Bar Examiners Testing Commission. Mr. England is co-chair of the National Appellate Practice Group and a shareholder in the firm’s Miami office.
The 17-member commission comprised of academic and legal educators, the judiciary and practitioners from various spectrums of the legal process, was created in June by the Supreme Court of Florida to evaluate data, information and materials compiled over the past two years by the Florida Board of Bar Examiners (FBBE). The commission will use this information to formulate and to submit recommendations to the FBBE and the Court on which subject matters should be included in the examination and testing as part of the Florida Bar exam.
"The Florida Supreme Court has no more important responsibility than assuring that the public will have access to qualified legal representation. The practice of law must remain relevant to the current legal framework of the state,” Mr. England said. “I am pleased to be a part of this contemporaneous review of the subjects on which new lawyers are required to be tested.”
Mr. England served as Justice and Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court from 1975 to 1981. From 1979-1980, he served as Deputy Chairman of Conference of Chief Justices. He is the author of Florida's Administrative Procedure Act, its Corporate Income Tax Code, and its Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (Florida’s “little FTC Act”).
Greenberg Traurig's Appellate Practice Group has been at the center of some of the most important appellate cases in recent times, including serving as appellate counsel to Lorillard Tobacco in the landmark appeal which reversed a $145 billion award, and writing the amicus brief cited extensively in the Supreme Court's decision in the University of Michigan affirmative action cases.
