NetIQ Delivers True End-user Experience Monitoring for Windows-accessed Applications

New AppManager ResponseTime Module for Windows Showcases Active Technology Innovation; Completes 360-degree View of IT Services

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NetIQ Corporation, an Attachmate business, today announced the latest version of NetIQ® AppManager® ResponseTime Module for Windows. IT organizations now have visibility into the end-user experience for any application accessed via the Windows desktop, including Microsoft Exchange (via Outlook), SharePoint, Siebel, SAP, and even custom or local desktop applications, without relying on programming or scripting expertise.

“Most organizations actively monitor Web applications, but for those applications that leverage a Windows desktop user interface, there has been no practical way to actively identify service degradations from an end-user perspective before they occur”

According to leading research firm, Gartner Inc., “the need to gain an understanding of the impact IT is having on business applications and users, without the enormous effort involved with collecting, filtering, correlating and consolidating availability and performance data for server, network, database and applications, is driving an increasing number of clients to invest in end-to end application transaction response time measurement tools to augment their element-focused monitoring tools.”1

Active end-user monitoring is regarded as an accurate and comprehensive application performance measurement method, as it provides in-depth visibility into the true end-user experience. While other active end-user monitoring tools support only Web-based applications, AppManager ResponseTime Module for Windows actively monitors and reports on the end-user experience of any application with a Windows client, combining that data with infrastructure and application monitoring collected from the physical and virtual infrastructure to deliver a true 360-degree view of service performance and availability.

With AppManager ResponseTime Module for Windows, NetIQ delivers ease-of-use and self-maintenance features to complement quick deployment and script-less configuration, including:

  • An easy-to-use mechanism for recording synthetic transactions, using mouse clicks or data entry to emulate end-user behavior on the Windows desktop.
  • Self-maintenance of these synthetic transactions through the use of optical character recognition and bitmap comparison techniques that keep the transactions current with any changes made.
  • A graphical user interface that enables administrators to manipulate the workflow of a transaction using diagrams that are automatically generated during the initial recording.

“Most organizations actively monitor Web applications, but for those applications that leverage a Windows desktop user interface, there has been no practical way to actively identify service degradations from an end-user perspective before they occur,” said Travis Greene, service management strategist at NetIQ. “AppManager ResponseTime Module for Windows allows IT administrators to not only track and pinpoint transaction bottlenecks negatively impacting end-users, but prioritize event response in order to address business critical issues accordingly. When combined with the additional depth and breadth of AppManager software, administrators now have meaningful insight that leads to truly successful service delivery, improved end-user productivity and better alignment of IT with business priorities.”

Pricing and Availability

NetIQ AppManager ResponseTime Module for Windows will be available July 2008 worldwide. List pricing starts at $3000 per endpoint. Bundled pricing and enterprise licensing are available.
