Disney.com Breaks All-Time Traffic Records in June; Remains the No. 1 Kids’ Entertainment and Family Community Destination on the Web

Video and Entertainment Events Drive Traffic Milestone

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Disney.com, the No. 1 kids' entertainment and family community destination on the Web, broke its all-time traffic record in June. Last month, more than 30 million unique users visited the Disney Online network of sites, according to comScore Media Metrix. This bested the previous record set in May 2008 by six percent and represents a 28 percent increase in unique visitors and 65 percent jump in both total visits and average daily total minutes compared to the same period last year. The traffic milestone was driven in part by several groundbreaking online video and entertainment tentpole events including the streaming of the Disney Channel Original Movie “Camp Rock” and full-length Wonderful World of Disney features as well as a unique online experience around “Wall-E.”

“These results validate our commitment to guest-driven entertainment experiences and demonstrate the unique Disney difference on the Web and mobile platforms.”

“The combination of programmed special features coupled with on-going made-for-the-medium content continues to drive increased visitor engagement,” said Paul Yanover, executive vice president and managing director, Disney Online. “These results validate our commitment to guest-driven entertainment experiences and demonstrate the unique Disney difference on the Web and mobile platforms.”

On June 23, Disney.com was part of an unprecedented multiplatform premiere weekend of the Disney Channel Original Movie "Camp Rock." According to internal tracking, the site reached a daily record with 3.17 million visitors lifting traffic to Disney.com by 37 percent (6/23/08 vs. 6/22/08). Guests flocked to the site to watch the full-length feature which attracted 863,000 video plays. According to comScore Media Metrix, Disney Channel TV Network experienced a 24 percent increase in online traffic over the prior month and is now No. 1 in the “Entertainment-TV” category, jumping four spots from its position in May.

For the first time ever, Disney.com began streaming full-length movies online for limited event-based viewing engagements. On June 9, the site kicked off a summer program (www.Disney.com/WonderfulWorld) streaming selections from ABC’s Wonderful World of Disney the week following the ABC network presentation each Saturday. The ongoing program has contributed to upticks in online video viewership (source: internal tracking).

During the week of June 24, leading up to the theatrical release of “Wall-E,” the Disney.com team worked with Pixar animators to create a one-of-a-kind “Wall-E” pre-roll takeover of the site. The takeover was the first of its kind featuring custom animation on Disney.com. Guest response was strong as evidenced by a significant percentage of homepage clicks to “Replay” the animation and a considerable increase in average time spent on the Disney.com homepage (source: internal tracking).

Disney.com on the mobile platform also experienced a record-breaking traffic month and saw double digit growth over May 2008 driven by new connectivity options with Disney.com and a hugely popular “Camp Rock” mobile Web site (source: internal tracking).
