GE Provides Integrated Display Systems Worth $55m for UK MOD
Integrated Cockpit Displays for Future Lynx, Merlin Helicopters
FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GE-Aviation has been selected by AgustaWestland to provide the Integrated Cockpit Display System on 70 Future Lynx and 30 Merlin Capability Sustainment Plus (MCSP) aircraft for the UK Ministry of Defence. The contact is valued at more than $55 million over the next ten years with production deliveries commencing in early 2009.
John Ferrie, president of GE’s Aviation Systems said, “The integrated display system provides a common helicopter cockpit for the UK MoD, clearly presenting flight, engine and enhanced situational awareness data. We are delighted to continue our support to AgustaWestland.”
The integrated cockpit display system utilizes the latest technology including a smart 10” x 8” Integrated Display Unit (IDU), flexible & adaptable Remote Interface Unit (RIU) and 2nd Generation Integrated Standby Instrument System (ISIS). GE’s Cockpit Display System on the Future Lynx and MCSP enhances operational efficiencies through commonality with other MOD and AgustaWestland cockpit display suites such as the AW101 and Super Lynx 300.
GE Aviation’s Integrated Display Unit (IDU) provides a wide field of view, high brightness, rugged display designed for use as an EFIS, EICAS or tactical mission display. The unit can either be fitted singly as a stand-alone display or combined with other IDUs to provide a fully integrated Cockpit Display System (CDS). The IDU is a smart unit with integral display generation, eliminating the need for a separate display computer, so reducing power, volume, weight and support costs and providing superior graphics performance.
