KANSAS CITY, Mo.--()--American Century Investments announces Joseph P. Craven, 49, has joined the firm as senior vice president of its institutional business.
“American Century Investments has been working diligently to bring institutional rigor to an already strong investment management capability”
“American Century Investments has been working diligently to bring institutional rigor to an already strong investment management capability,” said Brian Jeter, American Century Investments’ chief sales and distribution officer. “Those efforts, combined with the addition of Joe Craven to a very solid and experienced team, underscore our commitment to expanding our footprint in the institutional marketplace. Joe’s 25 years of public- and private-sector experience will be invaluable in successfully continuing the growth of our institutional business,” Jeter said.
“I’m excited to be joining American Century and look forward to continuing to build its institutional presence,” said Craven. “In addition to the company board’s demonstrated commitment to institutional investment management, I accepted the position because I believe American Century’s long-held philosophy of putting the interests of its clients first is the foundation of all successful institutional businesses. If we are able to contribute to the long-term success of our clients and their beneficiaries, then we will succeed, as well.”
Craven joins American Century Investments from Aquiline Investments, a private equity firm where he was a principal. Aquiline Investments is the investment management arm of Aquiline Holdings LLC.
From 2002 to 2004, he served as Putnam Investment’s director of Institutional Retirement Services, where he managed their institutional full service defined contribution business, serving 250 clients with $50 billion in assets under administration. From 1996 to the end of 2001, he served as Putnam’s director of Consultant Relations and Institutional Product Management.
Before that, Craven joined the Office of the Massachusetts State Treasurer as general counsel, later serving as deputy treasurer of the Pension Investment Division. In that capacity, he was responsible for oversight of pension plans with assets in excess of $8 billion. He practiced public finance and commercial finance law in Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York, where he worked as an investment banker.
Craven holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Brown University and a Juris Doctorate from the Fordham University School of Law.
