BOSTON--()--Federal Street Advisors, specialists in investment consulting to families and foundations, today announced Jennifer Christian Murtie’s appointment to the newly created position of Director of Foundation Services.
“I am excited about this new opportunity for myself, the firm and especially our foundation clients”
Christian Murtie’s primary role will be to make sure the company is doing what it can to help foundation and non-profit clients achieve their mission with both investment advice and service. In this capacity, she will partner with clients on specific projects and initiatives that allow them to connect investment strategies with ongoing program initiatives.
“The Director of Foundation Services is an expert on the issues and opportunities that foundations and non-profit organizations face from day to day and year to year,” said John LaPann, president of Federal Street Advisors. “Jennifer’s new position will allow our firm to address not just financial issues, but operational, networking and mission-based issues as well.”
While Federal Street Advisors has always emphasized its value-added services to foundation clients, the firm was encouraged to formalize efforts when non-profit assets under advisement approached and cleared $1 billion. In October, 2007, Federal Street Advisors partnered with long time client the Merck Family Fund to co-sponsor “Endowments for Climate Solutions: What You Can Do,” a day-long forum for foundations on mission related investing aimed at the issue of climate change. The session, held in Boston, was attended by 70 representatives of foundations from across the country as well as thought leaders from the public, private and academic worlds.
“I am excited about this new opportunity for myself, the firm and especially our foundation clients,” said Christian Murtie. “Investment consulting firms are in a unique position to partner with foundation clients to assist them in aligning their investment strategy with their mission and grant making programs.”
Christian Murtie, who recently completed her MBA at Simmons College, had previously served the firm as business manager. As part of her MBA program, she took a company-supported six-week sabbatical to implement an innovative program to provide safe drinking water to rural communities in remote areas of Ghana in collaboration with an MIT lecturer.
Christian Murtie, a native of Kenya now settled in Boston, joined Federal Street Advisors four years ago. Prior to that, she spent six years working at The Moriah Fund in Washington DC, as the foundation’s administrative director. In that role, Christian Murtie oversaw the day to day operations of the organization and contributed to program management. She holds a BA in sociology and international relations from Houghton College and an MBA from the Simmons School of Management in Boston.
“Jennifer’s past experience and genuine interest in the work of non-profit organizations, coupled with her deep understanding of our business, gives her the ability to understand the unique needs of foundations and their goals of aligning their investment decisions with their mission,” concluded LaPann.
