NEW YORK--()--The First Annual World Science Festival will take place from May 28th through June 1st, 2008. For five days, the Festival will bring together Nobel Laureates, leading researchers, top-level technologists, dedicated educators, and high-level policy makers with creative artists, filmmakers, and performers whose work is inspired by scientific discovery. The Festival will shine a spotlight on the forefront of science and explore how profoundly new ideas and discoveries shape modern life.
The World Science Festival springs from the vision of its two co-founders. Brian Greene is a Columbia University professor of mathematics and physics and star of the PBS series The Elegant Universe, based on his Pulitzer Prize-finalist bestseller. Tracy Day is a four-time National News Emmy Award winning journalist and producer whose credits include Nightline and This Week with David Brinkley.
More than a dozen Nobel Laureates including Rockefeller University President Paul Nurse and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center President Harold Varmus will participate along with a diverse array of other presenters including five-time Emmy Award-winning actor Alan Alda, Human Genome Project leader Francis Collins, Tony Award-winning actress and playwright Anna Deavere Smith, and neurologist and author Oliver Sacks.
Academic partners include the City University of New York, Columbia University, The Cooper Union, New York University, and Rockefeller University.
Cultural partners include the American Museum of Natural History, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, The New Victory Theater, New York Botanical Garden, New-York Historical Society, The 92nd Street Y, the Paley Center for Media, and the Rubin Museum of Art.
More than 30 events will be held over the course of the Festival at numerous venues throughout Manhattan.
