January Data: New Leader in On-Line Health Video

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Over five million illumistream Health videos were watched on-line in January, making illumistream the largest independent producer of health video for the web. Although illumistream (www.illumistream.com) has a library of over 650 health videos, it was the 100 videos on conditions that affect the core video demographic, 18 to 35 year olds, which generated the most interest. The most heavily viewed categories included STDs & Safe Sex, Insomnia, Pregnancy, and Weight Loss/Nutrition.

Over the past decade, the Internet has dramatically changed how consumers make health care decisions. In any given month, nearly 80 million Americans search for health information on-line (comScore Media Metrix). However, although health video was actually available on the web as early as 1998, the leading destination health sites still have not embraced video. In fact, not one of the 10 most trafficked consumer health sites has a video on its homepage, and only three of those 10 sites use their homepage to prominently feature video content.

illumistream Health has found growth opportunities despite this, by creating health content that appeals to the core on-line video demographic (18-35), and by including video portals, like YouTube, and video search engines, like Blinkx, in its distribution plan. Success in these channels needs to be built on content which effectively blends relevant information into an engaging format.

Google AdSense, through their video initiative, has also provided an effective platform for growth. The expanding base of AdSense Video users allowed illumistream to enjoy a 1,000% (10-fold) increase in video views between December and January.
