Connexion Technologies Selects Corticon for Its Management of Business Rules

Flexibility, Agility and Reuse Drove Competitive Selection

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Corticon® Technologies (www.corticon.com), the leader in model-driven Business Rules Management Systems, has been selected by Connexion Technologies (www.connexiontechnologies.net), a North Carolina fiber-optic amenity company, as a key tool for its development and operations of fiber-optic deployment. Connexion Technologies works with developers, builders, owners, and operators to design, build and maintain the most advanced telecommunication networks in single family, multi-family, high-rise, hospitality, and resort communities nationwide. More than 170 communities are up and running with Connexion Technologies’ fiber-optic network.

“After just a few months of development and testing, major phases of Connexion Technologies’ production are complete.”

By streamlining the installation process and automating product and service dependencies, inter-dependencies, escalation procedures, and ticket management status changes, Connexion Technologies expects to:

  • Reduce the costs of installing a fiber connection to every home in the community
  • Gain flexibility and agility to deliver products and services offerings to meet market demand
  • Tighten management of field operations
  • Consistently manage contractual obligations to both service providers and communities

The challenge for Connexion Technologies was the need for a combination of systems to work together to handle complex product and service-bundling dependencies. In addition, a diverse group of users, including customers, customer service reps, and field techs needed to access the same systems for different reasons. Because of the complexity of the tasks involved, Connexion Technologies determined that building a system based on a business rules management solution was its only option.

“Given the diversity of our audience and the different views each of our users required, we knew we needed a flexible and agile solution,” said Andrei Mitran, VP of Systems Development, Connexion Technologies.

Pivotal to that development was a business rules management solution with models for managing Connexion Technologies’ product and service dependencies that could provide:

  • Scalability: ability to handle complex, sophisticated logic and growth with the system as the rules and models change and evolve
  • Reusability: consistency for viewing business logic across the enterprise
  • Seamless SOA integration: capacity to enable trouble-ticket, Web site and Business Process Management application systems that effortlessly worked together
  • Agility: capability to respond quickly to market conditions, business opportunities and to keep up with consumer expectations and
  • A business-friendly interface: ownership of business logic for analysts without relying solely on IT for a translation

After comparing multiple vendors Corticon’s Business Rules Management System won the approval of the decision makers for its:

  • User-friendly Interface: A model-driven approach and Excel-like user interface that gives Connexion Technologies’ business analysts, the ability to define, validate and test the business rules.
  • Service-Oriented Architecture Support: Support that enables Connexion Technologies to reuse all of its business decisions across its enterprise.
  • Complex Handling of Decisions: Product information, product and service dependencies and inter-dependencies, escalation procedures, contractual obligations, billing requirements, local, state and federal regulations, tax laws, etc., that reside within the Corticon engine. Business decisions that are automated and executed consistently and reliably across the enterprise.

While a business process may change infrequently, the rules that drive the process can change regularly, and rapidly—such as rules relating to product offers and ticketing procedures. With Corticon, those in control of the business logic have the ability to change rules independently of the process itself—saving time and reducing errors.

“We continue to go live as soon as rules for each feature / function are turned-on,” said Mitran. “After just a few months of development and testing, major phases of Connexion Technologies’ production are complete.

“We believe that Corticon is the only product that can meet our demanding requirements. As we grow, we will not be able to scale without Corticon. We are especially impressed with Corticon’s ability to generate executable services from the business rules modeling interface. We feel like the interface is easy to use and is something that our business analysts would enjoy working with. We are also confident that it will handle our rule requirements,” added Mitran.

“Connexion Technologies plans to reach more than 110 additional residential communities in 2007,” said Mitran. “As we continue to grow and expand, we will continue to use Corticon Business Rules Management System to build and reuse corporate assets across the enterprise, to give consistency and accuracy in our day-to-day business activities, and ultimately, provide our customers with premier customer service.”
