TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Humana this fall is introducing a new health plan called “Premier HMO” in Florida. This new “open access” HMO will enable Humana Florida commercial members who choose the Premier HMO throughout the state to see any Humana network provider without a referral or without first selecting a primary care physician.
Humana’s Open Access Premier HMO will be available Dec. 1 to Florida small- and large-group employers and will provide commercial members access to a large network of participating physicians and providers at home and while traveling. Humana members who select the new Premier HMO can see any in-network HMO doctor or specialist without a referral from their primary care physician.
The Premier HMO network will enable Humana members in Florida to have access to more than 3,400 primary care physicians and more than 8,000 specialists across the state.
Humana Florida members can see whether their doctor is in the Premier HMO open access network by going online to Humana’s Physician Finder Plus Web tool at www.humana.com/members.
Humana members must still see participating network providers to have their health care and medical services covered by the Premier HMO plan. Their plan may cover services received from out-of-network providers in limited circumstances, including emergencies, such as heart attack and stroke; urgent care, such as ear infections and broken bones; and, prior Humana authorization.
Humana’s Premier HMO members can use their plan anywhere Humana has HMO-contracted providers, and in an emergency or urgent situation, they can see any provider.
With new Premier HMO, Humana members are usually responsible for fixed copayments when they see a doctor; have a prescription filled; or are admitted to the hospital.
Some Humana Premier HMO plans have deductibles and coinsurance for services. On these plans, members are responsible for the deductible and any coinsurance until the out-of-pocket maximum is reached, and then the plan pays 100 percent of services for the covered member.
“Humana is committed to providing our members with the information, the tools and the choices they need to make better decisions for themselves and their families in choosing and using their health benefits,” said Humana Southeast Commercial Operations CEO Craig Drablos, “and the new Premier HMO will give our Florida members more freedom and more flexibility in accessing our providers throughout the state.”
The Humana Premier HMO is now being marketed to Florida small employer groups – companies with two to 99 employees, and is also available throughout Florida for large employer groups – businesses with more than 100 employees.
Humana will continue to offer employers throughout Florida its innovative package of consumer-directed health plans, including traditional HMO and PPO plans, and high-deductible health plans that feature Health Savings Accounts.
