TheraDoc® Beta Tests Enhanced Version of Multi-Entity Technology

Market Release Slated for September 2007

APIC 2007

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TheraDoc®, www.theradoc.com, a Salt Lake City-based clinical informatics company that develops and implements real-time electronic surveillance and expert clinical decision support systems to enhance clinical decision making, has expanded its technology to better serve multi-entity hospital systems, also known as Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN).

“Its installation at one data center within the system will deliver real-time electronic surveillance and expert clinical decision support capabilities to all institutions within the network. In addition, corporate level users will be able to generate reports for benchmarking performance across all facilities in the network.”

While multi-entity capabilities are already built into the patented TheraDoc Expert System Platform® (ESP), the newest 4.0 version is designed to better meet the security and functional requirements of multi-facility and IDN customers through enhanced data access security, scalability, and reporting features. Like previous versions, one installation of the 4.0 version in a client’s data center supports multiple hospitals on one hardware platform. Beta and scalability testing conducted at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) are in progress. The first wave of implementation consisting of data integration and validation for six UPMC hospitals has been successfully completed with two hospitals currently in production and the others to follow shortly.

New configurable security features limit user access to patient data for sensitive facilities and patient locations. This allows TheraDoc users to all work in the same environment, but each user only has access to the facilities or locations appropriate for the user’s role. More robust support for CCOW (Clinical Context Object Workgroup) and support for LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) simplifies and reduces deployment costs by enabling single user signon and leveraging existing IT infrastructure for user authentication. Scalability testing has shown excellent support for all concurrent clinical users within a single software environment. Testing is expected to conclude in August, with a market release slated for September 2007.

“The robust multi-entity security features and functionality in version 4.0 will be a boon to both Integrated Delivery Network and direct hospital clients seeking best-in-class surveillance and expert systems to improve patient safety and care as well as reduce costs throughout their hospital system,” said Michael Barton, Pharm.D., TheraDoc Senior Vice President, Knowledge and Product Development. “Its installation at one data center within the system will deliver real-time electronic surveillance and expert clinical decision support capabilities to all institutions within the network. In addition, corporate level users will be able to generate reports for benchmarking performance across all facilities in the network.”

Barton also noted, “IDNs represent a significant and growing portion of our client base and the release of our version 4.0 software is a strategic investment to better support the functional, security and deployment needs of our IDN clients.”

Currently, many TheraDoc clients utilizing this technology are IDNs, including University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA; West Penn Allegheny Health System, Pittsburgh, PA; University of Pennsylvania Health System, Philadelphia, PA; Memorial Healthcare System, Hollywood, FL; Franciscan Health Systems, Tacoma, WA; Peace Health, Eugene, OR; OSF Healthcare, Peoria, Illinois; Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s HealthCare, Louisville, KY; and Lifespan, Providence, RI. Two health systems, Peace Health and Franciscan Health, have utilized the company’s original multi-entity technology since their implementations in 2003 and 2005, respectively.

TheraDoc’s real-time surveillance, identification, guidance and reporting technologies help hospitals to prevent and control infections; support pharmacist workflow and communication for clinical activities and documentation; alert clinicians to adverse events and changes in patient condition; select evidence-based treatments and meet state-mandated reporting of hospital-acquired infections (HAI). They also reduce associated costs and improve financial outcomes. Increasing state- and federally mandated reporting requirements in 2006 were instrumental in driving demand for TheraDoc technologies resulting in record growth, a trend that is expected to continue as these same market forces strengthen in 2007.
