MISYS CENTER FOR COMMUNITY HEALTH LEADERSHIP NAMES ADVISORY BOARD OF DIVERSE INDUSTRY LEADERS
Experts from Across the Healthcare Industry Join the Misys Center's Efforts to Increase Patient Safety through Healthcare IT Adoption and Interoperability
The Misys Center for Community Health Leadership™ today announced the first appointments to its Advisory Board. The Advisory Board, which consists of preeminent representatives from various cross-sections of the healthcare industry, will spearhead the Misys Center’s mission to promote widespread adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) on a community level. The Advisory Board will also provide general leadership to the industry at large.
Dr. Michael Fleming, a family physician and former president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, will chair the Advisory Board. Dr. Fleming said, “The Misys Center is taking the theoretical conversation about connectivity and data sharing between medical professionals and turning it into a reality by initiating the dialogue between physicians, hospitals and home care organizations and providing the right solutions to complete the task. I am very pleased to be a part of that important work.”
The Advisory Board will oversee the Misys Center’s initiatives, which aim to increase local involvement in the development of healthcare IT connectivity and EHR adoption throughout the country. Additional Board members include:
- Janet Marchibroda, MBA, Chief Executive Officer, eHealth Initiative and Foundation
- David Merritt, Project Director, Center for Health Transformation
- Blackford Middleton, MD, MPH, MSc, Corporate Director of Clinical Informatics Research & Development, Chairman of the Center for IT Leadership at Partners Healthcare System, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School
- Theodore F. Wiegand, MBA, Executive Director, Hillcrest Management Services Organization
“The expertise and leadership of these individuals solidifies the Misys Center’s ability to serve as a driving force behind healthcare IT adoption,” said Dallas Olson Jr., Executive Director of the Misys Center for Community Health Leadership. “The Board’s guidance, combined with Misys’ extensive expertise in the industry, will be invaluable as we work to not only supply local healthcare organizations with the resources they need to achieve community-wide health data sharing, but to also provide leadership to the industry on best practice and future direction.”
The Board will meet quarterly to provide general guidance, thoughts on community selection and implementation best practice for the Misys Center grant program, which was announced in June and opened for applications last week. Additionally, the Board will provide strategic guidance to the Misys Center's development of work materials on topics important to the healthcare industry, such as RHIO establishment and governance, community data sharing initiatives outside of the RHIO structure, tracking recommendations for Return on Investment in each care setting and predictions about the future of EHR adoption based on practical experience.
Dr. Fleming added: “All of the Advisory Board members are ready to apply their varied experiences in all areas of the healthcare industry to support the Misys Center's stated aims and Misys’ work with local community leaders in providing higher quality healthcare and lowering associated costs.”
“The potential for healthcare information exchange and interoperability to improve care delivery and contain healthcare costs is clear,” said Dr. Middleton. “Misys’ commitment to provide not only the funding but the knowledge required to the communities who receive the grants is different from anything I’ve seen in the industry to date, and I’m pleased to contribute to the Misys Center.”
