Mad Doc(R) Software and ECD Systems' Partnership Prevents Unauthorized Reproduction of Specialized Software; Patent-Pending Technology to Protect Software Property During Military Testing Scenarios

MARSTONS MILLS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 2006--ECD Systems, the innovator in anti-piracy and copy protection software, announced today that Mad Doc(R) Software has selected ECD's Security Authoring Workstation (SAW) to ensure the security of special versions of MadRTS(TM), Mad Doc(R)'s real-time strategy software technology. These versions are limited to use for non-commercial military and academic research purposes, and are being used by the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. and licensed academic researchers for conducting artificial intelligence (AI) research.

ECD's SAW technology will be used to create discs protected with Digital Armor that contain restricted versions of MadRTS. Developed under a Naval Research Laboratory grant, these versions of MadRTS help researchers to develop and test their AI systems. Because these versions of MadRTS can only be applied to non-commercial research, ECD's piracy protection against unauthorized copying is critical.

“Copy protection for these special versions of MadRTS protects our technology and the technology of our licensors”

"Copy protection for these special versions of MadRTS protects our technology and the technology of our licensors," said Mad Doc CEO Dr. Ian Lane Davis. "MadRTS is proving to be a useful tool in government and academic researchers' development of artificial intelligence systems, and we chose ECD as the best technology available to limit use and control copying of the discs."

ECD's Security Authoring Workstation integrates the company's Digital Armor(R) content protection technology with an automated duplication system, allowing design studios and publishers to create in-house volume production-quality discs that are each unique and forensically traceable. Discs created by SAW and protected with Digital Armor can be securely circulated without the risk of unauthorized copies or hacking of the content. SAW can also create secure gold master discs for replication use; each is forensically unique, allowing proper identification of content-rich discs used for these research purposes.

"ECD's technology is going beyond gaming into new fields where the protection of content is about more than the protection of revenues," said Jack Hart, CEO of ECD Systems, Inc. "We are very pleased that Mad Doc has continued to entrust ECD's software for protection in both the commercial gaming and government research environments, and look forward to the ongoing opportunities our partnership will bring."
