No Cord, No Receiver: Introducing the Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Notebook Mouse for Bluetooth; Ultra-Portable Mouse Connects Directly to Bluetooth Notebooks

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 2005--Logitech (SWX:LOGN)(NASDAQ:LOGI), the world's leading manufacturer of computer mice, today introduced the company's first cordless mouse that doesn't need its own receiver. The Logitech(R) V270 Cordless Optical Notebook Mouse for Bluetooth(R) uses Bluetooth wireless technology to connect with notebook PCs and Apple(R) PowerBook(R) notebooks that have an integrated Bluetooth receiver. It provides mobile professionals a one-piece, ultra-portable alternative to the touchpad.

"This is a realization of how many cordless computer peripherals could work in the future - you turn them on and they directly connect with the computer - no external receiver necessary," said Ashish Arora, Logitech vice president of product marketing for retail pointing devices. "We've taken our best-selling notebook mouse design and removed the receiver to come up with a product that delivers the ultimate in convenience for those who have notebooks enabled with Bluetooth wireless technology."

“This is a realization of how many cordless computer peripherals could work in the future - you turn them on and they directly connect with the computer - no external receiver necessary”

The Logitech V270 mouse is based on the design of the Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks, which has been a best seller among the rapidly growing number of notebook PC users. The mouse, charcoal gray in color, uses Bluetooth 1.2 wireless technology, which features adaptive frequency hopping to reduce the chance of interference from other 2.4 GHz wireless devices such as Wi-Fi notebooks or cordless telephones.

With typical use, the mouse achieves a battery life of up to three months, which can be extended with the mouse's convenient on/off switch. Also, as part of Logitech's smart power management system, the mouse features a low-battery indicator light, helping remove the potential surprise of a dead battery. The Logitech V270 mouse has a 1000 dpi optical engine, providing smooth, precision tracking on a wide variety of surfaces - important for the mobile professional who uses the mouse on the road.

For PCs using the Windows(R) operating system, the Logitech V270 mouse comes with a version of Logitech(R) SetPoint(TM) software that makes it easy for the mouse to connect to its host computer the first time. Pressing the reset button on the base of the mouse puts the mouse in discovery mode and launches SetPoint software, and an intuitive wizard helps the user establish the connection. On an Apple PowerBook, the mouse can be connected just like any other Bluetooth device by going through the control panel in the operating system and putting the mouse into discovery mode. After it's connected the first time on either a PC or Mac(R), the mouse will automatically reconnect each time the computer starts.

System Requirements

For the V270 mouse to work properly on a PC, the PC must have the following: Windows(R) 2000, Windows(R) XP, Broadcom/Widcom Bluetooth BTW 1.4.2.21+, or Microsoft XP SP2, or Microsoft XP64; CD-ROM drive. For the V270 mouse to work properly on a Mac, it must have Mac OS X 10.2.8+ and be enabled with Bluetooth wireless technology.

Pricing and Availability

The Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Notebook Mouse for Bluetooth will be available in the U.S. and Europe beginning in November. Its suggested retail price in the U.S. is $49.99.
