IBRIX Segmented File System Delivers Exceptional I/O Performance; IBRIX Fusion Demonstrates 2.3 Gigabytes per Second of Aggregate Throughput on an 834 Node Cluster at The Center for Computational Research at the University at Buffalo

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 18, 2005--IBRIX(TM), Inc., inventor of the Segmented File System(TM), today announced that the IBRIX Fusion(TM) Software Suite, an enterprise-class, fully-integrated parallel file system solution, has demonstrated 2.3 Gigabytes per second of aggregate read throughput at the Center for Computational Research (CCR) at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York (UB). This performance was delivered via 21 IBRIX I/O servers from 30TB's of EMC CX700 storage.

CCR is the third largest academic supercomputing center in the world, when considering peak performance from the top500 list and the 10TF peak performance system just installed in the center. The Center for Computational Research, part of UB's New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, serves a very broad range of applications including computational chemistry, environmental engineering, real-time visualization, bioinformatics, computational fluid dynamics, and data mining. CCR selected IBRIX Fusion for its 834-node cluster primarily to meet their requirement for a solution that was highly-scalable and multi-purpose, able to service a broad range of applications and scale as their requirements grow. Further information about the UB Center for Computational Research may be obtained from its website at www.ccr.buffalo.edu.

“Linear scalability on throughput and capacity enables increased productivity, faster data analysis, and more accurate business decisions for scalable enterprise customers. As the University at Buffalo showcases, applications within verticals such as bioinformatics, data mining, graphics rendering, computational chemistry, as well as many others, can benefit directly from IBRIX Fusion.”

"Since our center serves an extremely diverse set of computing applications, domains and users, it was critical that our expansion focus on a high-end and extremely well-balanced computational system," said Russ Miller, Ph.D., Director of CCR and UB Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. "IBRIX met our requirements for a robust parallel file system capable of sustaining a high rate of throughput from hundreds of cluster compute node clients. Just as important, the level of service that we have received from the IBRIX engineers has been exceptional. They went to great lengths to ensure our total satisfaction, working closely with our staff in setting up, configuring and demonstrating features of the interface."

IBRIX worked in tandem with Dell and EMC on the installation at The Center for Computational Research. The IBRIX solution is EMC eLabs qualified and is backed by a joint Worldwide Cooperative Support Agreement (CSA) for mutual customers, such as UB, with seamless technical support to ensure maximum uptime for mission-critical storage networks.

"Throughput is an important metric for global enterprise customers as well as computational research centers as it correlates directly with the ability to increase application performance for scale-out computing environments," said Joe DeRosa, Vice President of Marketing at IBRIX. "Linear scalability on throughput and capacity enables increased productivity, faster data analysis, and more accurate business decisions for scalable enterprise customers. As the University at Buffalo showcases, applications within verticals such as bioinformatics, data mining, graphics rendering, computational chemistry, as well as many others, can benefit directly from IBRIX Fusion."

IBRIX Fusion Segmented File System

IBRIX Fusion is a software-only solution that includes a global namespace parallel file system, a scalable volume manager, high availability features, and a comprehensive management interface. Equally applicable for both high-performance/high-throughput applications as well as metadata-intensive, small block enterprise applications, the multipurpose IBRIX Fusion file system solution delivers I/O performance and scalability that is greater than that achieved by other file systems.

IBRIX Fusion allows enterprise system administrators to build file systems that can scale to up to 16 petabytes of capacity in a single namespace, and provide up to one terabyte per second of aggregate I/O throughput performance, independently and non-disruptively as the demands of the enterprise grow. IBRIX Fusion, a purely software-based solution, increases application performance, simplifies administration, and reduces total cost of ownership. IBRIX Fusion is hardware, network, and protocol independent and can be deployed as either a host-installed cluster file system solution or exported over network file system (NFS), common internet file system (CIFS), or other industry standard protocols as a scalable network attached storage (NAS) solution.
