StoreNext and Pay By Touch to Collaborate on Electronic Payment Solutions for Independent Grocers; Pay By Touch Option Offered via StoreNext's Connected Services

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 2005--StoreNext Retail Technologies LLC and Pay By Touch have signed an agreement under which the two companies will market and provide Pay By Touch's biometric authentication and payment system to independent grocers. The joint solution will allow shoppers to pay for purchases with the simple touch of a finger.

According to the agreement, StoreNext, through its nationwide dealer network, will resell the Pay By Touch store-level hardware, software and interfaces to independent retailers. Data and transactions from the independents' point-of-sale systems will be processed through StoreNext's Connected Services suite of Internet-based store management applications. StoreNext dealers will provide ongoing service and support for the systems.

“Independent grocers and regional chains want to provide a faster and more convenient shopper experience with lower costs and outstanding security”

"Independent grocers and regional chains want to provide a faster and more convenient shopper experience with lower costs and outstanding security," said Ray Carlin, president and CEO of StoreNext. "This agreement represents an important next step in the evolution of our Connected Services offering and underscores our commitment to level the competitive playing field for independents."

Pay By Touch makes the checkout process faster, more convenient, and more secure than other payment methods by eliminating the need for consumers to present cards, checks or cash at the point of sale. When checking out, customers place their fingers on a biometric scanner that authenticates them while linking to their financial and loyalty accounts. Pay By Touch also offers a quick, accurate way to check age verification and automates the loyalty program. The Pay By Touch service is currently offered in Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. stores throughout South Carolina and other retailers in North America.

"Through our agreement with StoreNext, biometric payments for independent retailers will be easier to integrate and implement," said John Rogers, founder, chairman, and CEO of Pay By Touch. "You don't have to be a large retailer to realize the benefits of Pay By Touch. The combination of StoreNext's Connected Services and the Pay By Touch payment service enables smaller retailers to lower transaction costs and reduce fraud."

The StoreNext agreement is enabled through a recent partnership announcement between Pay By Touch and MTXEPS, Inc., a leading software provider in the electronic payments industry, whose application, WinEPS, is the core payment engine used by major retailers throughout North America.
