“Best Original Video Shot on a Mobile Phone.”
Mobile phone users can soon dial up their favorite video entertainment with the touch of a button -- anytime, anywhere -- on the Thumbdance Channel, a new mobile video channel announced today by Mobliss. The Thumbdance Channel caters to the burgeoning mobile video market and will feature programming from some of the highest profile brands in entertainment, including the irreverent and popular viral videos from IFILM; the wildly popular animated political parodies of JibJab; the hit urban entertainment television show, Weekend Vibe; and high-impact action sports from Ally Distribution, when it debuts this spring.
"Thumbdance will put smart, fresh bite-sized programs in the hands of mobile users everywhere," said Brian Levin, CEO and co-founder of Mobliss. "From comedy and action sports clips to episodic dramas and the latest from the urban entertainment scene, Thumbdance features content so hot it burns a hole in your pocket."
"Our political spoofs were seen over 80 million times online during the 2004 election season," said Gregg Spiridellis, co-founder of JibJab Media. "We are excited about the opportunity to partner with Thumbdance and expand the distribution of JibJab branded content even further onto mobile phones everywhere."
The mobile platform is widely anticipated to be the new mass medium for entertainment. In addition to licensed content, Thumbdance will also feature the first of its kind made-for-mobile programming with an original series from Weekend Vibe. The show will follow a day in the life of one of today's hottest urban artists and will air exclusively on Thumbdance.
The Thumbdance Channel also announced the launch of its first annual Thumbdance Mobile Film Festival. The festival invites amateurs and professional filmmakers alike to submit their own original short videos and compete in a variety of categories, including "Best Original Video Shot on a Mobile Phone." More information on the Thumbdance Mobile Film Festival can be found at www.thumbdance.com.
Thumbdance will feature a slate of original and licensed content from an exciting list of notable partners, including:
-- Ally Distribution and Champion Visions - Known for its world-class action sport DVDs, Ally Distribution (owned by global industry leader Champion Visions) will be the provider of videos featuring the unruliest and most authentic action sports, including snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, wakeboarding, mountain and BMX biking, and free skiing. These clips will be powered by performances of world-famous athletes, such as J.P. Walker, Seth Morrison and Mikey Leblanc;
-- IFILM - Online powerhouse IFILM's famous viral videos, short films and other contagious content will be reformatted and distributed through Thumbdance for optimum viewing on mobile screens;
-- JibJab - The exclusive partnership with smash online animation sensation JibJab will provide mobile subscribers with instant access to the Spiridellis brothers' irreverent political parodies, including the highly anticipated "Second Term!" debuting today;
-- Weekend Vibe - Media company, The Heritage Network, will extend its syndicated television show, Weekend Vibe, to the mobile audience with an original episodic program filmed exclusively for Thumbdance, capturing the latest buzz from the urban scene.
The Thumbdance Channel will be on display in Park City, Utah this week to kick off the launch of the Channel and the Thumbdance Mobile Film Festival. A number of activities are planned, including a launch party where guests can preview the programming as well as shoot and email mobile videos from Nokia 7610 handsets.
