Included in the new patents is U.S. Patent No. 6,750,877, titled "Controlling Haptic Feedback for Enhancing Navigation in a Graphical Environment." This patent discloses, among other things, systems and methods for allowing a user to interface with a graphical environment. In one embodiment, an interface device capable of communicating with a computer generating a graphical environment can include a user-manipulatable object capable of controlling a cursor, an actuator that outputs a haptic effect to a user, and a modulator to modulate the magnitude of the haptic effect in relation to a rate of the cursor's interaction with graphical objects displayed in the graphical environment.
“Controlling Haptic Feedback for Enhancing Navigation in a Graphical Environment.”
"In many applications, the use of programmable touch feedback is still in its early stages," says Dean Chang, Immersion CTO. "The technology we're inventing today can enhance -- and even redefine -- how we interact with computers and machines in the future. Our innovations can have an impact for a long time to come as developers incorporate haptics to create a better user experience in a wide range of graphical user interface (GUI) applications."
