| Currently Used by DEA, FBI and US Customs, DrugWipe is Now Available for Businesses, Schools and Insurance Companies |
“One of the common threads through the diverse challenges facing government agencies, businesses and especially insurance companies is drug use and how it affects productivity, safety and even work related insurance costs”
Global Detection & Reporting, Inc., today announced that DrugWipe, a patented technology that can instantly detect and identify the 5 major types of illegal narcotics on a surface down to the nanogram level is now available to businesses, schools and insurance companies. The narcotics that can be detected by DrugWipe are Cocaine, Cannabis, Opiates (Heroin), and Amphetamine/Methamphetamines.
Used in the United States by roughly 1,000 national, state and local law enforcement and government agencies since the mid 1990's, this advanced technology produces field reliable results in less than two minutes. The Office of National Drug Control Policy tested DrugWipe and included it in the National Technology Transfer Program.
Marketed by Global Detection & Reporting, Inc., the DrugWipe product line is currently used by the DEA, FBI and US Customs and has been a vital part of the Office of National Drug Control Policy Technology Transfer program, as well as, the Revenue Canada Customs Service.
First used in Europe, DrugWipe differentiates itself from other drug detection products currently available by testing for the raw drug, so that trafficking residue can now be detected as well as the sweat deposited from impaired users. DrugWipe technology utilizes patented biosensors to detect and identify the various drug types, the patterns and the location of illegal drug use and trafficking. It is not normally used to pinpoint individual usage. A "sophisticated lab on a stick," -- roughly the size of a pen -- DrugWipe quickly picks up the invisible residue of illegal narcotics with a single 'wand-like' motion. DrugWipe is an effective tool for businesses to combat employee theft, increase productivity and reduce workmen compensation claims.
"One of the common threads through the diverse challenges facing government agencies, businesses and especially insurance companies is drug use and how it affects productivity, safety and even work related insurance costs," says Roger Dietch, CEO of Global Detection & Reporting. "Today, employers facing an ever-changing business environment, must be assured -- both security and liability wise -- that their products remain consistent and their personnel is of a higher quality than ever before. And schools must provide a safe haven for children to learn in a non-threatening environment. In the business world it has been proven that drug testing is the single most reliable variable in assuring company and workforce integrity."
Dietch also adds that insurance companies are using more sophisticated tools than ever before to help their clients reduce insurance premiums by lowering the number of workplace accidents.
Numerous issues are driving the increase in screening and testing throughout the business world including heightened security fears after 9/11, a higher number of worker's compensation claims filed than ever before and greater awareness of how often people lie on resumes. Because of these factors pre-employment background screenings are more common than ever.
Dietch points out that most of GDR's current clients test the work surfaces, that they own, and does not test individuals. He also notes that even though an ever-increasing number of companies require pre-employment drug tests of all new employees, some industries remain reluctant to screen their current workers. "I find this absurd, considering the fact that one recent survey revealed that 80% percent of drug users steal from their workplaces. DrugWipe is ideal for the company that is having problems with pilferage or a school that has indications of drug use on its' property."
While some may think that drug testing could deter potential employees from choosing a company to work for, Deitch believes it's just the opposite citing the benefits of a drug-free workplace - to both the employer and the employee - as a tremendous asset. "Our research indicates that a drug-free workplace has a distinct advantage in hiring and retaining employees. These tests are a positive, proactive way to deter workplace drug abuse and trafficking and they insure the confidence of employees that they are working in a safe environment. It's a win-win situation for all as it improves workplace moral, lowers insurance premiums, increases quality and productivity, lowers self insured costs and reduces liability."
