Luther Vandross Sits Down with Oprah Winfrey and Gives His First Interview since His Stroke

Multiplatinum J Records recording artist Luther Vandross sat down with Oprah Winfrey for his first interview since his stroke last April. The interview will be part of a one-hour program dedicated to Mother's Day that will include an in studio conversation with his mother and a performance from Ruben Studdard singing "Superstar" in tribute to Luther. The broadcast premiere of this interview will be Thursday May 6th on ABC (check local listings for time).

This legendary performer, who is enjoying tremendous success with his latest CD release Dance With My Father, spoke to Oprah on a number of topics including his improving health, the tremendous support his fans have given him and the importance of family. Winfrey spent the day with Vandross at the rehabilitation center, attending his physical therapy sessions as well as his vocal coaching. Luther and Oprah have a long-standing relationship and he has been a guest on her program many times during the course of his career.

Dance With My Father has garnered 4 Grammy awards and has been certified double platinum. Luther was also honored at this year's NAACP Awards where he was the winner of 4 awards.

Vandross has moved out of the hospital but maintains a schedule of rehabilitation multiple times a week where he continues to make progress.
