SeaChange Supports Television Evolution With Comprehensive Digital Video Systems; Goldfarb and Lipson to Extend Broadcast and Broadband Synergy

MAYNARD, Mass.--()--Jan. 19, 2004--Reflecting new dynamics in the business of television, SeaChange International (Nasdaq:SEAC) today announced the appointment of Ira Goldfarb as senior vice president, worldwide sales. As shifting viewer trends and media consolidation blur traditional lines between broadcast and broadband television, SeaChange digital video systems are increasingly supporting new synergies that span multiple television outlets. Under Goldfarb's leadership SeaChange's unified sales organization will provide comprehensive support for broadcast, broadband, satellite and other companies pursuing strategic television opportunities.

"Ten years ago SeaChange was founded on the premise that digital systems could be applied to the specific requirements of television to enable new advances in the business of television," said Bill Styslinger, president and CEO, SeaChange International. "Our vision has not wavered and today I'm proud to count some of the largest and most recognizable names in television as our customers."

“Ten years ago SeaChange was founded on the premise that digital systems could be applied to the specific requirements of television to enable new advances in the business of television”

Styslinger said, "We see strategic new opportunities for all types of television content owners, producers, broadcasters and distributors to benefit from new synergies and to deliver viewers a more personal experience. We are committed to the on-demand, broadcasting and advertising businesses and see them converging as never before. All three of these segments are important to our growth and we will serve them with all the intensity and innovation that has distinguished SeaChange. Toward that objective, Ira will take responsibility for a unified sales team that spans broadcast and broadband operators around the world."

Lipson to Drive Content Support

Additionally, SeaChange has appointed programming and advertising sales veteran Stuart Lipson to vice president of Content Solutions, to further strengthen its resources dedicated to streamlining opportunities in burgeoning video-on-demand (VOD) services. Lipson is focused on supporting networks' and other content providers' efforts to more efficiently distribute content and extend their brands as television rapidly evolves toward more personal applications across television and online venues.

Accelerated VOD deployments and the increasing availability of content from studios, television networks, advertisers and niche providers underscore the critical need for software and automation that enables scalable applications that ensure consumer satisfaction with on-demand. SeaChange's software and systems simplify the business of television and automate the on-demand "content pipeline," seamlessly moving content from programmers to viewers.

Styslinger said, "On November 25 we announced our third-quarter financial results. We had record revenues and our third successive quarter of profitability. With over $100 million in cash, a superior engineering team and the largest service organization devoted exclusively to television, we will ensure our customers are well prepared to succeed amid the changes facing television today."

Goldfarb joined SeaChange in 1994 as vice president of central U.S. region sales and was subsequently named vice president of eastern region sales. Previously, Goldfarb was vice president, worldwide broadband sales. For more than a decade Goldfarb worked for Digital Equipment Corporation, where he held several sales management positions in the company's financial industry business. Goldfarb holds a BA in mathematics from Clark University and an MBA from Boston University.

Stuart Lipson has focused on media and entertainment for over 20 years. Since 1996, his consultancy provided strategic support for a wide range of television programmers and technology companies including Court TV, Agency.com and Incanta. Lipson spent the six prior years with Century Communications, where he was vice president of programming and advertising sales. His career began with ten years in television commercial production.

Lipson earned his M.S. in technology management from Polytechnic University and his Bachelor's degree in business administration from the State University of New York at Albany. Lipson serves on the board of the Big Picture Alliance, which provides Philadelphia's inner city youth with opportunities to learn about film production. He is also a member of the Directors Guild of America, and the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing.
