| Comcast Sets Stage for VOD Rollouts with Hands-On Demos For Employees and Constituents in Bay Area and Central Calif.; CES 2004 Audiences Experience What Only Cable Can Do |
“Cable's digital networks and VOD services are delivering tremendous consumer advantages and making television a more 'personal' experience”
SeaChange International's (Nasdaq: SEAC) Digital Television Tour continues to drive attention to the cable television industry's exciting and unique video-on-demand services. Most recently, SeaChange's Digital Television Truck was the focal point of Comcast's December events to promote upcoming VOD services in Central Calif. and the San Francisco Bay Area.
SeaChange's 80-foot Digital Television Truck provided demonstrations in Concord and Stockton, Calif. where the press, community leaders and Comcast employees experienced first-hand "Comcast On Demand," which is planned for availability in the region in 2004. Leveraging Comcast's newly upgraded cable systems and advanced digital video server systems from SeaChange, "Comcast On Demand" will feature a wide selection of movies and television programs.
Among upcoming tour stops across the U.S. is the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2004 in Las Vegas, where SeaChange's Digital Television Truck will provide hands-on VOD demonstrations in support of the industry's 'Only Cable Can' campaign. Organized by Cable & Telecommunications Association of Marketers (CTAM), 'Only Cable Can' promotes cable's strategic digital services: VOD, high-speed internet access and High-Definition television. CTAM's CES 2004 activities are geared toward helping the world's business and trade reporters connect with some of the cable leaders driving these strategic advances in television.
"Cable's digital networks and VOD services are delivering tremendous consumer advantages and making television a more 'personal' experience," said James Kelso, vice president, broadband systems, SeaChange. "Our Truck is a tool helping the industry to demonstrate the exciting services rolling out in major markets throughout the country. SeaChange is doing its part to support awareness of the pervasive changes in television that bring new empowerment to viewers."
While in Las Vegas in support of CTAM activity, James Kelso will address conference audiences on the rise of on-demand television and pivotal technologies. The Storage Visions 2004 conference will tap Kelso for a Jan. 7 session focused on the technical standards and performance required for on-demand ubiquity. On Jan. 9, Digital Hollywood at CES 2004 features Kelso on a panel that will explore the economics of on-demand business models.
In its second year on the road, SeaChange's Digital Television Truck empowers cable television operators to showcase the digital television opportunities spanning personal applications including DVD-on-demand, as well as High-Definition VOD and a range of advanced advertising capabilities. This 18-wheel truck features a 20-seat multimedia theater flanked by a fully integrated broadcast facility and a digital cable head-end that emulates television operators' digital infrastructure investment.
SeaChange provides highly automated and fault-resilient digital video systems for the on-demand business. Today, SeaChange VOD Systems provide more than 750,000 on-demand streams in over 100 deployments, including 17 of the top 25 television markets, for North America's largest cable operators including Adelphia, Cablevision, Comcast, Cox Communications, Insight, Mediacom, RCN, Rogers and Time Warner Cable.
In its second decade focused on personal television, SeaChange's software and systems simplify the business of television and automate the on-demand "content pipeline," seamlessly moving content from programmers to viewers.
