CORBA is an open, vendor-independent architecture and infrastructure that computer applications use in order to work together over networks. A common use for CORBA in an embedded system is to provide an open management interface for configuring and managing embedded devices from other systems. Using CORBA, Nucleus developers can write embedded applications that work independently across various platforms and diverse networks.
Combining Varadhi and Nucleus MNT, the simulation platform for the Nucleus RTOS, application developers can prototype their distributed system even before the hardware is available. Because there is no change in the application code, development using Nucleus software and Varadhi tools is faster and easier. Nucleus PLUS, a real-time kernel, Nucleus C++ Base, an object-oriented version of Nucleus PLUS, and Nucleus NET, a TCP/IP protocol stack, also support the Varadhi middleware solution. To round out the offering, Accelerated Technology's code/lab(TM) EDE development environment, which includes a multitasking debugger, can be used for debugging complex applications.
SANKHYA Varadhi 1.1 XE for C++ Cross Platform edition is a highly configurable, high-performance and low foot-print edition of SANKHYA Varadhi that can be used for developing distributed applications that reside on PDAs, routers, intelligent devices, server appliances, command and control systems, building control systems and other embedded systems. Varadhi 1.1 conforms to CORBA 2.2 (Minimum CORBA).
"SANKHYA Varadhi includes a powerful configuration utility that can be used out-of-the-box to build a Varadhi platform for Nucleus PLUS. This means that Nucleus developers can make use of CORBA in their applications within minutes of installing Varadhi," said Murali Manohar Rao B, General Manager and Director of Strategic Alliances, Sankhya Technologies Private Limited.
"The addition of this CORBA solution underscores our commitment to add support within the Nucleus RTOS for evolving application spaces like complex distributed systems. Nucleus support for the Varadhi platform will quicken the development cycle for users building CORBA-based products," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics.
