In conjunction with Bluesocket, the ReadytoSurf(tm) service offers fast, secure wireless broadband access for Wimbledon attendees. Based on the 802.11b standard, wireless access will be available to the majority of users without any configuration of their equipment being required. The service will enable web surfing, email checking and media streaming and enable tennis enthusiasts to stay connected to their office, home or the world via the Internet, as they pass through the Wimbledon tournament, thereby minimising disruption to their lives and maximising their enjoyment of The Championships.
“Broadreach is delighted to be providing Wimbledon with WI-FI internet access. Bluesocket has been an invaluable partner in the design of the wireless network and providing the crucial features of security and management of the users and their traffic.”
Broadreach Networks Limited are using a Bluesocket WG-2100 Wireless Gateway to act as the default gateway for all public wireless internet traffic. The WG-2100 will route and manage all wireless traffic from the three ReadytoSurf (tm) WebPoint Kiosks positioned at key locations by Centre Court and Court 1 at The Championships. When a wireless user connects to the service, the WG-2100 will authorize them and then manage, log and route all of their traffic.
"It is a great privilege to be working with Wimbledon and managing the wireless access available to all visitors. With Broadreach we are offering an innovative, secure and value added service to one of the world's most famous sorting events and the thousands of visitors from around the world that attend," said Martin Cassidy, VP and General Manager EMEA at Bluesocket.
Mr. Jeff Lucas, IT Director, of The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Wimbledon said, "We are constantly seeking to improve and enhance the facilities and experience of the public at Wimbledon. We are delighted to be the first in the UK and Europe to offer WI-FI hotspots at The Championships. Spectators can now sit back and enjoy the tennis without having to worry that they are out of touch with home or the office."
Magnus McEwen-King, CEO of Broadreach said, "Broadreach is delighted to be providing Wimbledon with WI-FI internet access. Bluesocket has been an invaluable partner in the design of the wireless network and providing the crucial features of security and management of the users and their traffic."
