SAN DIEGO--()--According to recent reports, FedEx claims it will ship more than 13 million packages on what is expected to be its busiest day of the year, December 14th. The United Parcel Service of America (UPS) announced December 21st as their busiest day, projecting a delivery of 22 million packages worldwide. In addition, the company announced that it would hire some 50,000 temporary seasonal employees to help with this year's holiday deliveries. And, the United States Postal Service says it processes some 826 million pieces of mail during the holidays, annually.
“Mailing packages sooner rather than later is ideal, but we are offering other tips that will help ensure packages get to their destinations on time and undamaged.”
"Improper packaging is a major reason why many gifts arrive damaged and/or on December 26th and after," said Steve Goble, vice president of marketing communications for Annex Brands, franchisor of the PostalAnnex+, Handle With Care Packaging Store and Sunshine Pack & Ship brands. "Mailing packages sooner rather than later is ideal, but we are offering other tips that will help ensure packages get to their destinations on time and undamaged."
- Use a new box. Old boxes may break apart in transit, and may display old shipping labels, resulting in the package being delivered back to your own house.
- Don’t use brown wrapping paper. If it is torn from the package, the delivery label will go with it, leaving an unlabeled box for the carrier to deal with.
- Put an extra mailing label inside the package. If the delivery label becomes separated from the box, the carrier can still complete delivery if a copy of the delivery address is inside.
- Never use string. It gets caught in sorting machines, mangling packages and their contents.
- Don’t use duct tape. It loses its adhesiveness in cold weather. Masking and cellophane tape also won’t withstand the rigors of the shipping process.
