SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--()--Apriva®, the leader in high-security wireless solutions for the Electronic Payments and Mobile Messaging markets, announced today that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has awarded Apriva a five-year contract worth $17 million for Apriva software licenses, network equipment, third-party software, and outsourced network and help desk support for DISA’s secure wireless data and e-mail infrastructure. The contract includes the implementation and licensing of a second Apriva Gateway to provide geo-diverse failover support, the continuing license for the first Primary Apriva Gateway, wireless network services, data center services, and outsourced 24 X 7 operational management and help desk support for DISA’s entire Apriva Private Gateway infrastructure.
DISA’s implementation of the Apriva Gateway infrastructure, referred to as the Multi Carrier Entry point (MCEP) by DISA, provides the secure wireless and data center infrastructure for the Secure Mobile Environment Portable Electronic Device (SME PED). The implementation of the second Gateway provides geo-diverse failover support in the event the primary DISA Gateway fails due to natural disaster, error or malicious attack. If this were to occur, the second DISA Gateway will automatically engage and provide Continuity of Operations (COOP), a critical feature not often available with traditional wireless e-mail NOCs.
Apriva licenses its private gateway technology to customers who utilize Apriva’s various mission-critical messaging applications. The Apriva Gateway supports geo-diverse failover for wireless devices certified for up to Secret-level classified email and data communications, providing a new generation of alternatives to RIM BlackBerry® units. It provides the enterprise with full command and control of their wireless messaging infrastructure, and provides intelligent routing of data and messaging traffic among multiple domains and enclaves without ever storing or queuing messages, the way some traditional commercial Network Operation Centers (NOC) do, and never co-mingles authorized user’s traffic with traffic outside of the enterprise’s direct control. Leveraging unpublished private IP space and private wireless carrier connections, the Apriva Private Gateway solution helps mitigate distributed denial of service attacks.
The Apriva Private Gateway provides enterprises with direct command and control of their critical messaging and data communications infrastructure, traditionally controlled by third-party commercial vendors. Apriva’s licensing terms are flexible in order to accommodate a wide range of uses, from entry-level, low-cost configurations which support just a handful of mission critical devices, to full enterprise configurations which are capable of supporting hundreds of thousands of devices with redundancy and failover. “We are very pleased that DISA has again selected Apriva to provide the technology and services to support their mission-critical classified and unclassified wireless messaging and data communications applications and mobile devices. Apriva values its role in these high-security programs for the U.S. government, as well as our authorized worldwide government allies using unclassified devices and SME PEDs,” commented Jeff Ford, President of Apriva’s ISS division.
The Apriva secure mobile messaging solution used in SME PEDs, and in unclassified-only Microsoft® Windows Mobile® OS devices, has been selected for use by governments and agencies who have strict information security requirements. Commercial uses of such technology can be from businesses which also require greater security over the network data path, protecting sensitive data and intellectual property, such as in the healthcare, manufacturing, legal and financial services industries.
About Apriva:
Founded in 1999, Apriva is the leading wireless solutions provider integrating the hardware, software and network infrastructure required to develop and deploy high-performance, high-reliability solutions from end-to-end in the Point of Sale (POS) and Information Security Systems (ISS) markets. About SME PED:
SME PEDs allow for multi-domain wireless access to both unclassified and classified networks from a single device via an Apriva Gateway. The SME PED devices, which also support up to Top Secret voice, leverage the public key infrastructure (PKI) client/server architecture of Apriva’s secure mobile messaging architecture.
About Apriva’s Secure Mobile Messaging Architecture:
Apriva’s secure mobile email and messaging system is a client/server encrypted data application with a device and digital network agnostic architecture. The messaging application framework provides PKI S/MIME email, including attachment encryption, full data-at-rest protection, and compliance with relevant protection profiles for Microsoft Windows Mobile OS devices and SME PEDs. This offering works with Apriva’s hard-token encrypted Bluetooth/USB Smart Card Readers, or via soft-token certificates. AprivaGuard™, along with AprivaVault™ software components, validates, authenticates, stores and encrypts all data-at-rest on the device. The offering’s AES 256 encrypted messaging, data sync and PIM databases are fully synchronizing all messaging transactions, contacts, calendars, tasks and notes tying directly back to the customer’s enclave and Microsoft Exchange server environment though Apriva’s Gateway infrastructure. The Apriva Private Gateway intelligently routes traffic among multiple domains and enclaves without ever storing or queuing messages the way a traditional Network Operation Center (NOC) does, and never co-mingles authorized user’s traffic with traffic outside of the enterprise's command and control.
