“Our best-in-class TandemHeart platform is the driving force behind CardiacAssist’s persistent growth and profitability”
Privately held CardiacAssist Inc. announced today six-month financial results for the first half of 2009. Revenues, profit, cash flow and the number of patients treated with its TandemHeart System were at new record levels compared to results for the same period in 2008.
FDA-cleared and CE-Marked TandemHeart can be placed rapidly by both interventional cardiologists in a cath lab and by cardiac surgeons in an operating room to provide short-term circulatory support to patients requiring additional cardiac assistance. The device provides effective and reliable temporary circulatory support for critically ill patients. Hemodynamic support includes a high net blood-flow rate of up to five liters per minute in the catheterization lab or up to eight liters per minute in the OR—more than twice the amount of competing technologies, such as the Impella® 2.5 from Abiomed—and is fully reimbursed by Medicare under existing DRG codes.
“Our best-in-class TandemHeart platform is the driving force behind CardiacAssist’s persistent growth and profitability,” said Michael Garippa, CEO and President. “Our financial success underscores the marketplace reality that TandemHeart sets a whole new paradigm for treating cardiac patients quickly and aggressively,” added Garippa. “The velocity of our growth and profitability strongly suggests that many physicians are becoming aware of the significant clinical differences between our best-in-class device and our competition’s—such as TandemHeart’s superior flow rate, and the fact that TandemHeart, unlike its competitors, is not contraindicated for important disease states such as aortic stenosis and aortic insufficiency. Consequently, we believe more passionately than ever that TandemHeart is destined to become standard of care in extracorporeal circulatory support.”
