PHOENIX--()--Veryant, the COBOL and Java technology innovator, will host a Webinar on June 10, 12 noon EDT, to demonstrate how COBOL applications and data investments can be modernized quickly and extended with Java technology.
“Bridging the COBOL to Java Divide: COBOL Modernization with Veryant”
The Webinar, "Bridging the COBOL to Java Divide: COBOL Modernization with Veryant," will feature Alfredo Iglesias, vice president at Veryant, and Mike Born, software development manager at Donatos Pizza, a quick-service restaurant chain with nearly 200 restaurants in six midwestern and southern states.
They will address the modernization and Java-integration capabilities possible with isCOBOL Application Platform Suite (APS) software from Veryant, and provide a live demonstration of the technology.
Donatos Pizza used isCOBOL to modernize its COBOL-based point-of-sale (POS) system and move to a Java-based thin client platform. The company avoided the difficulty of changing its processes to fit an off-the-shelf solution; with isCOBOL APS as the bridge between the old and new, Donatos Pizza minimized the impact of the migration by allowing users to continue using a familiar application.
isCOBOL also provided the flexibility and freedom to execute the transition plan on the company’s timetable. The new system presented a modern GUI interface, but preserved the company’s application investments and allowed the old and new systems to access the same ISAM data files.
isCOBOL APS blends the optimized, business-oriented nature of COBOL with the openness, portability and power of the Java platform. With isCOBOL 2009, COBOL programmers can automatically generate Java classes that enable Java programs to directly access COBOL data without proprietary middleware or time-consuming, risky reengineering. This feature enhances productivity and eases integration between legacy and new application environments.
