Bright Spot on the Austin Business Scene: E-Cycler M&K Recovery Group Expands Capabilities, Doubles Space with Facility Move
M&K’s capabilities on display at SC08, Austin Convention Center, through November 21 at booth 2045
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--M&K Recovery Group, a precious metals refining and computer recycling specialist drawing on more than thirty years of global expertise, announced today the expansion of its Austin, Texas location, as it moves into a facility twice the size of the original location. The new facility, located at 9200 Cameron Road, Ste 200, will accommodate the equipment needed for the location’s full electronics recycling capability and will include a shredder, used in hard drive and data destruction services. The addition of services to the location, originally opened in March 2006 as a shipping hub, is due to customer demand. Why SC08?
“Green” issues, particularly recycling, are now an integral part of the technology community. But recycling electronic equipment can be particularly tricky for those businesses with inherently sensitive data, such as storage or research-oriented companies; in this age of planned obsolescence, when IT managers consider which machines enter the work stream, they must also consider those that leave it, and the sensitive data stored within them – and ensure all equipment is properly disposed of, preferably via electronic recycling, a.k.a. e-cycling. A dual role can be served by electronics recyclers: not only to deconstruct each piece of equipment to its smallest possible component and recycle all pieces responsibly, but to offer complete and auditable destruction of hard drive equipment to ensure data security. Because no matter how sound a company’s data protection strategy is for the machines it uses, it can all go to waste if those machines are disposed of improperly once they’re obsolete.
Why an Austin expansion?
“Our regional customer base has been steadily growing, and as business increases so does the volume of incoming e-waste,” said William Rockett, Vice President, M&K Recovery Group. “The Austin facility was doing so much in volume that we had to rent space for storage, so investing in a larger facility actually provides us with savings while increasing our productivity. We’re proud to be a part of the Austin business community and look forward to expanding our presence!”
Responsible, effective practices guaranteed
As an ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO 14001: 2004 Certified organization, environmental stewardship is the foundation of M&K’s asset management and recycling program. At a time when e-cyclers are facing increased scrutiny due to the unfortunate practices of a few companies, M&K’s customers have full assurance that no hazardous waste reaches a landfill, thanks to the company’s EPA-compliant, “Zero Waste” environmental management system. De-manufacturing and processing of material is conducted in an EPA-Permitted facility. Auditable “Chain-of-Custody” tracking of product ensures final disposition of all hazardous and non-hazardous material recycled. These compliance reports document that M&K’s customers’ products have been recycled and accounted for—indemnifying customers against regulatory liability for improper disposal of material.
“In addition to our core e-cycling capabilities, our facility offers data destruction services that carry the same guarantee as our recycling program: that all materials will be processed in an environmentally sound manner, with the additional assurance of complete data safety,” said David Golla, Operations Manager, M&K Recovery Group, Austin. “Services such as on-site shredding are provided for hard drives, tape and optical media, IC’s, and other proprietary components. Witnessed destruction is offered, or processing can be viewed with a vendor log-in account to real time IP-based security cameras. All lots are recorded by Control Number and accompanied by Certificate of Destruction. Serialized scanning of product for destruction is available upon request.”
