Young Survival Coalition Appoints Survivor, Entrepreneur as New CEO

National Breast Cancer Organization Taps Marcia Stein to Spearhead Expansion of Organization and Support Services for Women Under Age 40 Affected by Breast Cancer

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Young Survival Coalition, the largest national organization dedicated to serving young women affected by breast cancer, appoints Marcia Stein as its new CEO. Stein, a 12-year breast cancer survivor, will draw on her extensive corporate experience in the health care arena to expand the organizations capabilities to meet the needs of more than 250,000 women under age 40 affected by breast cancer.

With twenty years of experience in the corporate and non-profit health sectors, Stein has demonstrated strong leadership skills in organizational development and funding. Steins most recent role as co-founder and former chief development officer for Senior Whole Health, a multi-state organization providing patient services to the underserved, earned recognition by Inc. Magazine as the Fastest-Growing Private Company in the United States.

Were incredibly fortunate to have someone of Marcias caliber and experience lead our organization into our second decade of service to young women affected by breast cancer, said Lanita Moss, Young Survival Coalition president. Under Marcias leadership, we plan to strengthen the Coalitions grassroots network within the United States, drive age-related research and contribute to national policy initiatives.

The Young Survival Coalition, founded in 1998 by three women under age 35, has 15 affiliates in the United States to address the unique needs of young women affected by breast cancer. For women under age 40, there is very little research or educational material focused on issues unique to this younger population, such as fertility, pregnancy, genetic predisposition, the impact of hormonal status on the effectiveness of treatment, psycho-social and long-term survivorship, and higher mortality rates for young women. The Coalition will work to position these topics in the national spotlight, while providing support to those who need it.

I am honored and look forward to being at the helm of an organization I love, said Stein. Young Survival Coalition has touched thousands and thousands of lives, including mine, and I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to work with the coalitions board, staff and volunteers in this exciting time of growth. I am dedicated to making sure that Young Survival Coalition is there for every young woman who needs us.

Previously, Stein worked with Neighborhood Health Plan, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Core Health. She holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Chicago and Boston University and a Masters degree in Physics from Tufts University.

The Young Survival Coalition is the premier international, nonprofit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to the concerns and issues that are unique to young women and breast cancer. Through action, advocacy and awareness, the coalition seeks to educate the medical, research, breast cancer and legislative communities and to persuade them to address breast cancer in women 40 and under.
