HR Policy Association Awards Certification to UnitedHealthcare for Achieving Industry-Leading Transparency Standards
- Improved drug-cost transparency helps consumers make better drug-purchasing decisions
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UnitedHealthcare’s internal pharmacy benefit management unit, UnitedHealth Pharmaceutical Solutions (UHPS), has been certified by HR Policy Association for meeting rigorous transparency standards that help employers and their employees make better pharmaceutical purchasing decisions.
The transparency standards were created by HR Policy Association’s Pharmaceutical Coalition, a group consisting of nearly 60 U.S. companies that represent more than 5 million people. The coalition developed the industry-leading transparency standards as part of its Transparency in Pharmaceutical Purchasing Solutions (TIPPSSM) initiative aimed at helping pharmacy benefit managers improve drug cost transparency in the marketplace. The coalition’s model for certification includes adherence to standards, comprehensive audit and disclosure rights, and effective decision-support tools for consumers.
“We have long believed in and practiced the principles advocated by HR Policy Association, and are proud to have our pharmacy benefit management program certified against their rigorous standards,” said Tim Heady, UHPS CEO. “We look forward to continuing to work with members of HR Policy Association to help them achieve their health care benefit goals and support their employees’ access to the medications they need.”
