AmeriChoice Awarded Contract to Serve Connecticut’s Charter Oak and HUSKY Programs
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AmeriChoice, the UnitedHealth Group [NYSE: UNH] company that facilitates care for beneficiaries of state and public health care programs, announced today that it has been selected by the Connecticut Department of Social Services to provide service to the state’s Charter Oak and HUSKY programs.
Connecticut will be the 22nd state in which AmeriChoice provides services to state or local governments, the most extensive such operations of any company in the country. The new health plan will be known as AmeriChoice by UnitedHealthcare. The state license was issued to AmeriChoice of Connecticut.
The Charter Oak plan is a new program designed for low income adults without employer-funded health insurance and who do not currently qualify for Medicaid. HUSKY provides coverage for beneficiaries of the state’s Medicaid managed care program and its Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
Rick Jelinek, AmeriChoice chief executive officer said, “We appreciate the confidence the State of Connecticut has shown in us to help its residents have access to affordable, quality health care. Our extensive experience serving similar programs across the country and the capabilities of the other UnitedHealth Group companies with which we work will enable AmeriChoice to offer an unmatched set of resources to improve the health of the beneficiaries of these important programs. We are also pleased to be able to leverage many of the company’s Connecticut based staff to assist with the implementation and operation of the program.”
