SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NewCardio, Inc. (OTC BB: NWCI), a cardiac diagnostic and services company, today announced that Craig M. Pratt, M.D., has agreed to join the Company’s Scientific Advisory Board.
Dr. Pratt joins NewCardio with a long and impressive record as a leader in cardiovascular medicine, with a proven track record in more than a dozen clinical trials and as a key advisor to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Pratt is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Heart Association, Heart Rhythm Society, American College of Physicians and the International Society of Heart Failure. He has been the principal investigator for numerous trials of drug and device investigations for the treatment of arrhythmias, heart failure, ischemia and other cardiovascular disorders. These include over 10 national trials with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) including the Beta Blocker Heart Attack Trial (BHAT), the Cardiac Arrhythmia Pilot Study (CAPS), Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI I, II), Studies of Left Ventricular Dysfunction (SOLVD), Comparison of Electrophysiologic Study to Electrocardiographic Monitoring (ESVEM), Cardiac Arrhythmia Suppression Trial (CAST), Asymptomatic Cardiac Ischemia Pilot (ACIP), Antiarrhythmic Drugs Versus Defibrillators (AVID) and the Atrial Fibrillation Follow-up Investigation of Rhythm Management (AFFIRM) trials.
Dr. Pratt has served as a member of the Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Board of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for 11 years, including Chairman of the Cardio-Renal Advisory Board from 1987-1993. He continues to serve as a consultant to the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research and serves on numerous national and international clinical trial committees as chairman and as a member of data safety monitoring board, event committees, steering committees and writing committees.
Dr. Pratt received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of California, Irvine. He completed his post-graduate training in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of California, Davis. He served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and played a major role in the care of Vietnamese refugees at Camp Pendleton Marine Base, California. Dr. Pratt joined the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in 1978 where he remained until September 2005 as Professor of Medicine in the Section of Cardiology. He is currently Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, Director of Research for the Methodist DeBakey Heart Center and Director of the Coronary Intensive Care Unit at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.
