Priva Technologies, Inc. Approved for TSA Registered Traveler Program
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Priva Technologies, Inc. has been approved by the Transportation Security Administration as a service provider for its Registered Traveler program, according to Jeff Minushkin, Priva’s chairman and CEO.
“Our Cleared® Security Platform was designed to be the most powerful and efficient credentialing and authentication technology available today, making it ideal for airport security screening,” according to Minushkin. “It can significantly speed up security checks at airports for travelers who qualify for the program at the same time making the security checks themselves more robust than is possible with any other existing technology.”
At the heart of the platform, he explains, is a security processor, the ClearedChip™, which was the world’s first commercially available biometrically-enabled microchip to have achieved the government’s FIPS140-2 Level 3 certification(1). A distinctive feature of the chip is its ability to protect the mechanisms that govern information processing on the chip, to identify and capture intrusion and to protect the privacy of users’ credentials and their biometric data.
Priva is one of a handful of service providers approved by the TSA for its Registered Traveler program. Minushkin says the company welcomes the opportunity to deploy “what we believe is a security screening system that is unmatched in its strength, its versatility and its ability to protect the privacy of users.”
He would not speculate on how soon the Platform will be ready for widespread deployment but said that Priva is moving forward with deliberate speed to enable what he says will be “the first truly efficient and effective portal for easing the security squeeze at airports for trusted travelers while providing a solid value proposition to customers, airports and airlines alike.”

About the TSA Registered Traveler Program
The Transportation Security Administration and private industry developed the Registered Traveler (RT) program to provide expedited security screening for passengers who volunteer to undergo a TSA-conducted security threat assessment (STA) in order to confirm that they do not pose or are not suspected of posing a threat to transportation or national security. The RT program is market-driven and offered by the private sector with TSA largely playing a facilitating role. TSA is responsible for setting program standards, conducting the STA, physical screening at TSA checkpoints, and certain forms of oversight. The private sector is responsible for enrollment, verification, and related services.
(1) FIPS 140-2 Level 3 [Federal Information Processing Standard] has only been achieved by approximately 7% of all certified security products. In addition to the tamper evident physical security mechanisms of Level 2, this level attempts to prevent an intruder from gaining access to CSPs by the use of physically strong enclosures and/or measures to detect and respond to penetration attacks by actively erasing CSPs. Identity based user authentication mechanisms must be employed and software must be written in a high level language. Entry of plaintext CSPs must be via dedicated ports. Most complete cryptographic products (hardware and application software) fall into this category. Such products will normally be used in environments when some degree of physical access control is in place, eg a computer center.
