IRVINE, Calif.--()--The Midsummer Classic heads to San Francisco this year as the 78th Major League Baseball® (MLB) All-Star Game® returns to the city by the bay, ready to showcase America’s favorite baseball players and one extremely lucky fan. Taco Bell®, the Official Quick Service Restaurant of MLB, today announced another of its signature “Think Outside the Bun®” promotions that will offer a fan the chance of a lifetime: to take the field on July 10th at San Francisco’s AT&T Park before the 78th MLB All-Star Game with a chance at becoming America’s newest millionaire.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for a fan to take the field with some of baseball’s biggest stars and get a shot at becoming a millionaire.”
Taco Bell’s “Swing for a Million” promotion will be shown during FOX’s coverage of the All-Star Game’s pre-game ceremonies with one contestant receiving three attempts to “swing for the fences” from a tee at home plate with a real chance at walking away with some cash. One power slug of 280 feet on the fly and our contestant becomes an instant millionaire. Swings falling short of 280 feet may still win a heavy payout as a 255 foot blast will reward $250,000 and a 230 foot drive will secure $100,000. Fans are encouraged to enter for a chance-to-“Swing for a Million” by logging onto www.mlb.com/tacobellallstar from now through Sunday, June 24, 2007.
“We love baseball and want to celebrate baseball’s fans by giving them a unique ‘inside the game’ chance they won’t soon forget,” said Bob Fulmer, interim chief marketing officer, Taco Bell Corp. “This is a fantastic opportunity for a fan to take the field with some of baseball’s biggest stars and get a shot at becoming a millionaire.”
The “Swing for a Million” is another in a long line of “Think Outside the Bun” promotions Taco Bell has conducted through their partnership with MLB. During previous All-Star Games, Taco Bell held the “Rapid Fire” contest where in 2004, Houston, TX resident Tom Grey proved to America that he could indeed “throw heat” as he successfully threw five baseballs though a target in 30 seconds, walking away an instant millionaire. No stranger to involving the entire United States in its promotions, Taco Bell also placed its famous “Free Taco” target during the 2002, 2004 and 2006 World Series.
Taco Bell will have an extended presence during the 78th MLB All-Star Game in San Francisco, participating in MLB FanFest and returning as the title sponsor of “Taco Bell All-Star Sunday” on July 8th, and the “Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game,” in which MLB legends are teamed with celebrities from TV, film and music in a fun-filled competition.
