"ScanMaster users now have three big new shopper service features," commented Tony van Seventer, StoreNext's vice president of products and marketing. "Home delivery, gift cards and especially U-Scan have proven popular with shoppers and increase the grocer's competitive position. This makes -- in less than a year -- more than 50 important new capabilities StoreNext has given ScanMaster that help independents and regional chains drive down costs and increase shopper service."

"ScanMaster's home delivery system is especially exciting, allowing customers to shop the store and have their groceries delivered to their homes," van Seventer continued. "And of course U-Scan's ability to improve shopper service and cut wait times has made self-checkout a make-or-break competitive capability."
By adding the Blackhawk support option, ScanMaster independents can offer as many as 50 different major gift card brands, including Starbucks, Circuit City, Barnes & Noble and even Major League Baseball. With little or no inventory cost, the margins from gift cards provide a major return on investment for the independent grocer, as well as satisfying shoppers with the convenience of buying these cards at their favorite supermarkets.
Other important new ScanMaster features include enhanced support for StoreNext's Pricer electronic shelf labels, StoreNext's RBO back office system and the S&H GreenPoints program. Pricing management, security and electronic payments enhancements are also provided with ScanMaster 2.3, as is ScanMaster's new Global Configuration Manager. This new tool centralizes and automates the implementation of all ScanMaster features, and makes it easy for users and support personnel to manage the POS system end-to-end.
Independent grocers interested in implementing the BlackHawk gift program will need current ScanMaster V2 POS software, compliant in-store EPS software such as from MTXEPS and a payments processor that is Blackhawk compliant. StoreNext is also providing Blackhawk support on its ISS45 V7 and V8 POS systems.
The announcement was made at the Food Marketing Institute's (FMI) 2006 Marketechnics trade show in San Diego.
