Quiksilver Sponsors Danny Way's Great Wall of China MegaRamp(TM) Jump; DC Shoes' Team Rider and X Games Gold Medalist Set to Break His Own Skateboarding World Record July 9th

HUNTINGTON BEACH--()--June 30, 2005--Quiksilver, Inc. (NYSE:ZQK) (www.quiksilver.com), the leading boardriding lifestyle company and parent company of DC Shoes, today announced it has partnered with Global Village Media Group and MegaRamp(TM) Events to sponsor skateboarding world record holder, X Games Gold Medalist and DC Shoes Team Rider Danny Way's world record Great Wall of China MegaRamp(TM) Jump on July 9th at the Ju Yong Guan Gate. Way already holds skateboarding world records for distance (24 meters / 79 feet - 2004 X Games) and unaided height (7.14 meters / 23.5 feet - 2003 Point X), but his Great Wall of China leap will be his most tremendous test of ability ever. Numerous people have tried to jump over the Great Wall, most notably a 2002 attempt that left a mountain biker dead, but Way will be the first to attempt the jump on a skateboard.

To challenge his current world record for unaided height, Way gained the blessing and cooperation of the People's Republic of China, and specially designed the Quiksilver and DC-branded Beijing MegaRamp(TM), the largest skateboarding structure ever constructed. The take-off ramp towers 65 feet above the Wall, and the roll-in has a 60 degree downslope. Way may break the world speed record for a skateboard on his descent. He will then roll up the world's largest quarterpipe ever built 30 feet high to try to break his own record for height out of a ramp.

“This is his biggest feat yet and I'm proud to see him accomplish this in China. The Great Wall Jump represents the ultimate culmination of his many ramps over the years.”

"Quiksilver continues to grow around the world, and China is an important region for our brand," said Bob McKnight, CEO, Quiksilver. "Danny is the perfect athlete to bring this feat of skating excellence to this nation, and his jump will serve as a bridge to a country which has discovered its passion for skateboarding. It also represents an enormous opportunity to bring our boardriding lifestyle to the youth of China and the tremendous excitement surrounding this sport."

"Skateboarding has yet to realize its full potential, and by bringing this event to the people of China and the rest of the world, I hope to contribute to the future of skateboarding and bring my sport the global attention it deserves," said Danny Way, Team Rider, DC Shoes. "I am aware of the dangers but I am also excited to be achieving a life-long goal, and honored to have my visions embraced by the people of China."

In 1993, Way was made DC's first team rider, and unveiled his signature shoe in 1994. Two years later, the company funded a custom 18-foot ramp at Brown Field outside of San Diego, where he broke the world record for highest air on a skateboard. Quiksilver's sponsorship of the Great Wall of China MegaRamp(TM) Jump marks the first time DC and parent company Quiksilver have partnered efforts for a global skateboarding event.

"I am psyched to see Danny's vision come to fruition," said Ken Block, President, DC Shoes. "This is his biggest feat yet and I'm proud to see him accomplish this in China. The Great Wall Jump represents the ultimate culmination of his many ramps over the years."

Danny Way is no stranger to life's challenges. Since the age of six he has been well on his way to legendary skateboard status. As one of the youngest-ever professional and sponsored skateboarders at 14 years of age, Way has consistently pursued excellence. Despite personal setbacks and crippling injuries, Way has continually proven his athletic skills, as well as his dedication to the progression of his sport. Highly regarded within the action sports community as a pioneer and a visionary, Way has repeatedly challenged the limitations set by other athletes and himself--breaking his own records when no one else could. Way again broke his own world records with an unaided height of 7.14 meters / 23.5 feet at Point X in 2003, and a distance of 24 meters / 79 feet at the 2004 X Games. The Carlsbad, California resident and world record holder also surfs, rides motocross and snowboards at a professional level.

"The great feat of Danny Way jumping over our Great Wall and accomplishing his own dream should be an inspiration to the youth in China," said Kin Mak, Global Village Media Group. "Danny Way shows us that it is possible to realize our dreams, and it is the essence of challenging our own extreme spirit. Global Village Media Group and MegaRamp(TM) Events are excited to be staging the Quiksilver MegaRamp(TM) Jump and the satellite events that will unify the spirit of the entire day."

The Ju Yong Guan Gate, at nearly 3,000 years old, stands as one of the most important cultural sites in China, and one of the country's top tourist destinations. The events there will include music, fashion and action sports competitions in a two day festival which culminates with Way's jump. DC will promote Way's historic feat with two new 30-second broadcast spots, which will air June 27th through July 17th on MTV, MTV2, and ESPN.
