Dow Works to Advance STEM Education at National Science Teachers Association’s 60^th Annual Conference

MIDLAND, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As part of a long-term commitment to advance interest in, access to, and quality of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, the Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) is working with the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the largest professional organization in the world promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all. Dow is a sponsor and active participant in this year’s 60^th Annual NSTA Conference, taking place March 29 through April 1, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Themed At the Crossroads for Science Education, the 60^th Annual NSTA Conference is a unique opportunity for STEM educators to share knowledge, learn current applications of science from the field, and put them in the best position to teach and inspire. Dr. Catherine Hunt, Director, Innovation Sourcing & Sustainable Technologies at Dow, will present a lecture titled “Bridging the Gap, Transforming the Future: Education, Collaboration, Innovation!” The presentation is an open session to all conference attendees and will be held on March 29 at 3:30 p.m. Dow will also provide an interactive exhibit booth, hold a special reception for Dow New Science Teacher Academy Fellows and conduct 90-minute training workshop on Friday, March 30, on “You Be The Chemist” – a national program from the Chemical Education Foundation sponsored by Dow.

Dow’s current commitments to teachers include providing scholarships for experienced teachers to attend workshops at the Keystone Center and The National Science Resource Center (Smithsonian Institutes), and funding NSTA’s New Science Teacher Academy for second- and third-year teachers. Since 2008, these programs have impacted more than 11,500 teachers and 1.5 million students in the United States alone.
