PetSmart® and Arizona Diamondbacks Announce First-Ever Dog Fans in Doggie Suites at Professional Baseball Playoff Game
D-backs Clinch National League Wild Card Game Oct. 4 at Chase Field; D-backs Fanbase to Include Dogs as PetSmart Patio Hosts Pups and their Humans in Doggie Suites Perfect for Playoff Game Excitement
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Arizona Diamondbacks have clinched a spot in the National League Wild Card Game to be played tomorrow at Chase Field vs. the Colorado Rockies and for the first time ever, dog fans located in special Doggie Suites will help cheer on a crucial win at a professional baseball playoff game. Dogs and their humans will enjoy all the excitement from the PetSmart Patio, which features Doggie Suites for a dog and four people, all-you-can-eat classic baseball fare, and doggie ice cream sundaes complete with kibble toppings, as well as indoor and outdoor dog parks to blow off steam at the seventh inning stretch. These permanent pet-friendly fixtures make Chase Field the most dog-friendly ballpark in America.
“The Doggie Suites are a fun way to take in a game and even more thrilling with the excitement of a postseason game. We look forward to howls from this crew, adding to the fan energy inside Chase Field tomorrow night.”
“It just made sense to open the PetSmart Patio for the Wild Card Game to allow some fans to enjoy the excitement with their best friends,” said Derrick Hall, D-backs President & CEO, “The Doggie Suites are a fun way to take in a game and even more thrilling with the excitement of a postseason game. We look forward to howls from this crew, adding to the fan energy inside Chase Field tomorrow night.”
Among the pup fans is “Gordo,” an eight-year-old pit bull mix who was adopted at the July 2 D-backs vs. Rockies game by his pet parent Mikala and Jason Solarez. Gordo was adopted by his new pet parents at The Adopt Spot @ Chase, a pop-up adoption center operated during all the Dog Days of Summer home games that is supported by PetSmart Charities and staffed by its local adoption partners including the Arizona Humane Society, who bring in adoptable pets to feature at the game. For all 21 Dog Days of Summer home games this season, dogs were hosted on the PetSmart Patio and adoptable pets were featured at the game. Across the 2017 season, 57 dogs, like Gordo, went home from a D-backs game with their new forever families.
“We are delighted to host families, including our furry family members, on the PetSmart Patio for this exciting D-back’s playoff game,” said Eran Cohen, chief customer experience officer, PetSmart. “We are excited to be part of this first-ever event where dogs watching from doggie suites are at a professional baseball playoff game, and we hope the team spirit and cheers of the fans – people and pups – help bring a win!”
The PetSmart Patio was launched at the first home game of the 2016 season (April 10) through a unique D-backs and PetSmart collaboration to create permanent dog-friendly fixtures at Chase Field. In the 2016 season there were 13 games featuring the Dog Days of Summer ticket package, which includes tickets for four people and one dog, as well as all-you-can-eat classic baseball fare. A PetSmart doggie bag of treats, chews, water bowl and complimentary dog bed is also included, as well as doggie ice cream sundaes for the pups. In the 2017 season the Dog Days of Summer ticket package was expanded to 21 home games. This unique ticket package is expected to be sold in the 2018 season.
