Alcoa Showcases Technological Advancements at 7th European Automotive Lightweight Conference

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 2005--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that it will showcase its technological advancements in the use of aluminum in the automotive market at the 7th European Automotive Lightweight Conference in Bad Nauheim, Germany.

The Alcoa aluminum spaceframe of the all-new 2005 Ferrari F430 will be featured during a presentation by Dr. Axel Forderreuther, development manager, Alcoa Advanced Transportation Systems. By using aluminum in its spaceframes, Ferrari is able to reduce the weight of its vehicles while increasing handling and safety.

Also at the conference, Rick Borns, director of technology, Alcoa Automotive Castings, will present Alcoa's Optimal Design Initiative(TM), where engineers use advanced computer-aided engineering methods, process optimization and high strength alloys to produce a part design that weighs less, while meeting the demanding performance specifications of customers.
