Gearing Up for the Ultimate Big Game TV Experience? Expect Even More Value and Performance in Home Theater Gear This Year

Ultra HD TV is four times sharper than HDTV and it will upscale your Big Game picture, making it sharper, clearer and dramatically better than an HDTV.

MINNEAPOLIS--()--A trip back in time shows how the cost and performance of the home theater experience has improved over last year as fans gear up to watch the Patriots battle the Seahawks on Feb. 1.

The last time the Patriots won the Big Game – 2005 – a 50-inch RCA DLP Projection HDTV at Best Buy cost $2,799. Now? You can get a 50-inch Insignia HDTV for just $399.

The Seahawks won it all just last year, when a Samsung 55-inch 4K UHD TV cost $2,299. This year, a 55-inch Samsung 4K UHD TV for the Big Game is just $1,199.

“January is an important month for TV deals because manufacturers just announced their new 2015 lineups at the Consumer Electronics Show,” said Mark LoCastro at leading deal site DealNews. “Anyone who is considering a premium TV purchase should look for deals on 2014's top models now and throughout the next few months.”

UHD vs. HDTV?
Also known as 4K, Ultra High Definition – or simply UHD – is the new wave of TV technology offering four-times the resolution of 1080p HDTVs. Customers can expect more than double the 4K UHD TV options at Best Buy compared to the last time Seattle was in the Big Game just 12 months ago.

UHD TVs have eight million pixels compared to HDTVs, which have two million pixels. And while this year’s game will not be broadcast in UHD, an Ultra HD TV will upscale the picture, boosting the quality to make it sharper, clearer and dramatically better than an HDTV.

Industry experts advise that TVs 50 inches or larger are the best for watching the game with your party guests. Given that, an LG 55-inch HDTV is on sale for $499 and the LG 55-inch 4K UHD Smart TV is down to $1,199.

And to complement your big screen TV, sound bars can aesthetically span the width of your TV and also provide the audio necessary to make you feel as if you are at the game.

LG offers a great sound bar and woofer for $199, and Samsung’s curved sound bar seamlessly fits a new curved UHD TV for just $699. One of the best parts of these sound bars and woofers is you do not get tangled up in wires – many of them are wireless. And do not forget Bose’s CineMate 15 for $539.

If you are in the market for a new TV but short on time or energy, this year Best Buy’s Geek Squad guarantees delivery and installation of your system by game time if it is purchased by 11 a.m. local time on Jan. 28. Delivery includes free haul-away and recycling of your old clunker TV, giving you more room for guests and that taco bar.
