WASHINGTON--()--The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) is proud to announce the honorable Nancy Pelosi, U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Leader, as the recipient of its 2014 “Excellence in Leadership Award.” Leader Pelosi will receive this accolade at the Women in Business and Leadership Luncheon on Monday, September 22 during the USHCC 2014 National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sponsors of the luncheon include Wells Fargo, BMW North America, LLC, The Kauffman Foundation, E&Y, Facebook, Doral Bank, Google and Cosmo Latina.

The Excellence in Leadership Award pays tribute to an extraordinary woman who has devoted her professional career and personal life to revolutionizing the world of business, entertainment, philanthropy, or government. Previous honorees include iconic journalist and talk show host Cristina Saralegui, seven-time Grammy-Award winning artist Gloria Estefan, businesswoman and co-owner of the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball franchise Linda Alvarado, and Cosmopolitan for Latinas’ Editor in Chief Michelle Herrera Mulligan.

“The USHCC is thrilled to honor Leader Nancy Pelosi, one of the most dedicated and accomplished public servants of our time, with our Excellence in Leadership Award. As our nation’s first woman Speaker of the House and the highest-ranking female politician in American history, she presided over one of the most productive Congresses to date. And after three decades in Congress, Leader Pelosi remains passionate about representing the interests of her constituents in Washington while promoting the advancement of all Americans,” said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. “The USHCC is honored to be joined by Leader Pelosi, a true American icon, at our 2014 National Convention in Salt Lake City, and we look forward to celebrating the contributions of all our nation’s trailblazing women during our Women in Business and Leadership Luncheon.”

“It is a sincere privilege and humble honor to serve as the recipient for the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s (USHCC) 2014 ‘Excellence in Leadership Award.’ For nearly four decades, the USHCC has stood as a tireless champion for Hispanic business owners and as staunch advocate for economic vitality and sustainable prosperity throughout the country. And as the first woman Speaker, it makes me proud to witness Latina entrepreneurs spearheading the economic growth by starting up companies at six times the national average. But progress must continue,” said Leader Pelosi. “With our When Women Succeed, America Succeeds agenda, we will provide economic opportunities for families and women – including Latina – entrepreneurs, unleashing their full potential and achieving greater economic success. And to keep our families united and strengthen our economy, we must, once and for all, pass bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform.”

Leader Pelosi has long been a powerful voice and staunch advocate for women’s rights, both around the world and at home. In Congress, she spearheaded the passage of historic health insurance reform, and has approved unprecedented investments in college aid, clean energy and innovation, the DREAM Act, and initiatives to help small businesses prosper.

“Leader Pelosi embodies all the qualities this honor was designed to recognize – excellence, visionary leadership, steely resolve, and an elegance of the highest caliber. While the Excellence in Leadership Award honors the outstanding achievements of an individual woman, it also underscores the vast contributions women make in this country every day,” said USHCC Chairman Marc Rodriguez. “The time to recognize the work of America’s high achieving women is long overdue, and we are proud to have Leader Pelosi serve as the standard bearer for this exclusive, longstanding honor at the USHCC.”
