NEW YORK & MCLEAN, Va.--()--Homewood Suites by HiltonHilton Worldwide's international brand of upscale, all-suite, extended-stay hotels, celebrates the opening of its seventh Lewis Learning Library in partnership with Books for Kids. The brand is also releasing its fifth book in the “Lewis the Duck” children’s book series in anticipation of National Literacy Month.

The Books for Kids Lewis Learning Library at the Hamilton-Madison House Head Start Center is a first for Homewood Suites in New York City, which also debuted its first Manhattan property last month. In 2012, the library was shuttered after receiving extensive damage from Hurricane Sandy, including the loss of 75 percent of its book collection. Following its reopening, the library will serve 400 children in the New York downtown area, offering new books, literacy enrichment activities and regular readings.

Homewood Suites is also further cementing its commitment to children’s literacy with the release of “Lewis the Duck Flies Around the World.” The Lewis the Duck book series is co-authored by Homewood Suites Global Head Bill Duncan and his son Christian. With every book, the pair looks to help travelers stay connected with young ones while away from home, teaching readers important lessons about different cultures and giving back.

“Opening our first library in New York and publishing our fifth ‘Lewis the Duck’ book are great sources of pride for Homewood Suites in our commitment to this important issue,” said Bill Duncan. “With National Literacy Month only one month away, everyone should remember the importance of reading to all children, as children’s literacy is not something that should be taken for granted.”

To date, Homewood Suites has donated more than 13,000 books and volunteered 2,725 service hours to literacy causes. The brand has also printed more than 100,000 copies of the Lewis the Duck book series which is available for purchase at every Homewood Suites Suite Shop, as well as at www.LewistheDuck.com.

“Books for Kids is thrilled to be opening our seventh library with Homewood Suites, and the first in New York. This library will give under-served youth unparalleled access to books and greater literacy resources, to help prepare them for school and for life,” said Amanda Hirsh, Executive Director, Books for Kids. “We are honored to continue this partnership with Homewood Suites as we work together to improve early childhood literacy.”
