ST. LOUIS--()--Online investing services company Scottrade, Inc., last night was ranked number 83 on the 2014 InformationWeek Elite 100 – a list of the top business technology innovators in the U.S.

The company made the list for its behind-the-scenes technical development and creation of the Flexible Reinvestment Program (FRIPTM). Aligned with the Future-State methodology, Scottrade’s IT and business departments worked closely to deliver this program to Scottrade’s millions of clients.

“In an effort to provide clients with engaging experiences, Scottrade wanted to find a way not only to create a program to help clients reinvest dividends, but also build an exclusive program that sets it apart from competitors,” said Ian Patterson, Scottrade’s chief information officer. “The creation and development of FRIPTM would not have been as smooth without the business and IT working together in lock step to make it work.”

FRIPTM provides clients with greater flexibility to reinvest accumulated dividends from publicly-traded companies. In order to break away from the industry-standard dividend program of requiring dividends to be reinvested in the same security owned, Scottrade’s innovative system that pools the value of the dividends and allowing clients to purchase up to five eligible* securities at a time.

One of the keys of this project’s success was that it was developed and delivered quickly for clients to use. Clients have provided very positive comments about the program through Scottrade’s social media channels and independent blogs.

Technology enhancements to the company’s trading tools and programs are fueled by input from clients. Their feedback through the Scottrade® Online Community and other channels, both online and in person, inspires and prioritizes the work of the company’s digital solutions and information technology teams. When it’s time to build new tools, just as when building FRIPTM, Scottrade relies on client usability testing to ensure its new tools are easy to use.
