Time Spent Waiting for Slow Computers Is a Top Source of Frustration for Time-Strapped Parents

BOISE, Idaho--()--As busy parents manage the daily pressures of family life, a new study reveals that on some days, 64% of US parents of kids under 18 spend more time with their computers than with family or close friends.

The nationwide study, conducted online by Harris Interactive on behalf of Crucial.com, seeks to answer the age-old parenting question -- Where can I find more time in the day? The study reveals that one answer might be to fix a slow computer as U.S. adults who feel they lose any time lose an average of 16 minutes per day while waiting for slow computers to “catch up” with them (e.g., waiting for programs to load, boot up/shut down).

“There are so many little things we do each day that we never think of as wasting time. It may not seem significant at first, but when added up over the course of a week, month or year, it’s astonishing how much time is spent waiting for technology that is supposed to make our lives easier,” said Kathy Kaehler, author, celebrity trainer, lifestyle expert, and mom. “Fortunately, there are steps we can take to find extra time in our everyday lives, and the computer that we all love to hate is a great place to start.”

As 16 minutes per day equates to two hours each week and four days per year lost to the whims of a slow computer, it's no surprise that 76% of U.S. parents have more patience for their children than they do their computers.

The survey also revealed that an underperforming computer can add to the everyday stress of parenting, as 69% of parents said waiting for a system they know should be faster is one of their top sources of daily frustration.

“I think most would agree that the rewards of parenting are well worth the frustration, stress and anxiety that comes with the role,” said Roddy McLean, marketing director at Crucial.com. “However, when it comes to misbehaving computers, a memory upgrade is usually the best solution for adjusting the attitude of a computer that has become defiant.”
