Washington Gas Energy Systems Selected by U.S. Army as a Solar Technology Contractor on $7 Billion Renewable Energy Multiple Award Task Order Contracts

MCLEAN, Va.--()--Washington Gas Energy Systems (WGES), a subsidiary of WGL, has been awarded the opportunity to win a portion of $7 billion under the Renewable Alternative Energy Power Production for the Department of Defense (DOD) installations Multiple Award Task Order Contracts, or MATOC. The company was identified by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as one of 22 qualified solar technology contractors.

Selected from a pool of over 114 candidates, WGES is now qualified to compete for future solar projects for any renewable energy initiatives issued under the contracts program. Through power purchase agreements, DOD installations will be able to procure abundant, renewable alternative energy.

According to the Army Corps of Engineers, solar is the second of four technologies being awarded. The first being geothermal, awarded in the spring of 2013. Remaining technologies include wind and biomass, both of which will be awarded by the end of 2013.
