ThermoEnergy and STW Resources Transform Oil & Gas Produced/Flowback Water into Fresh Water in the Permian Basin

Successful Pilot Test of TurboFrac® Produced Water Recycling System Reduces Total Dissolved Solids to Levels Below Suggested EPA Secondary Standards for Potable Water

ThermoEnergy TurboFrac Produced Water Recycling System Pilot Test Near Midland, TX

WORCESTER, Mass. & MIDLAND, Texas--()--ThermoEnergy Corporation (OTCBB: TMEN) and STW Resources Holding Corp. (STW) (STWS:PK) announced they have completed a successful pilot test of ThermoEnergy’s TurboFrac® produced water recycling system. The Pilot was conducted at a major oil producer’s site near Midland, Texas. STW provided access and operated the site in conjunction with ThermoEnergy. The purpose of the pilot was to demonstrate the performance and durability of the TurboFrac system.

While in operation, the TurboFrac system processed produced water with a 72% fresh water recovery rate while reducing Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) from 102,000 Mg/L to 40 Mg/L, and reduced chlorides from approximately 84,000 Mg/L to 16.5 Mg/L or less. A concentrated ten pound brine of over 400,000 Mg/L was also produced.

The TurboFrac produced water recycling system is based on ThermoEnergy’s proprietary CAST® (Controlled Atmosphere Separation Technology), a flash vacuum assisted distillation system that the company has deployed at more than 80 industrial sites in the U.S. as well as in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Using ThermoEnergy’s TurboFrac system, STW will provide clients with water management services utilizing a superior technology that has high fresh water recovery rates, excellent water quality, and reusable 10 pound brine at a cost below other water reclamation systems.

STW Chief Executive Officer, Stanley Weiner, said “We are very impressed by the TurboFrac system’s performance and durability. Weiner added, “During the pilot, the system performed consistently on all produced waters that we processed and tested through a certified third party lab. The ability to recycle produced water into fresh water can offer our customers both economic and environmental advantages over other treatment options and reduce the need to utilize precious fresh water resources.”

“Although ThermoEnergy is a relatively new name in the oil and gas industry, the company has been treating and recycling wastewater similar to produced water for nearly 20 years,” said ThermoEnergy Chairman and CEO, James Wood. “ThermoEnergy systems can not only recycle produced water for reuse in fracking fluids, they can also process the water to quality levels suitable for agriculture, or safe disposal without the need for trucking to EPA approved disposal wells. These systems also recover and purify the brine in produced water, a commodity that has a high economic value and use for drilling and fracking operations.”

“We were pleased with STW’s competence in running the system with minimal supervision from ThermoEnergy engineers,” noted ThermoEnergy Chief Technology Officer, Stephen Brown. “We are confident that STW will provide exceptional service to its customers using the TurboFrac equipment.”
