WESTLAKE, Ohio--()--TravelCenters of America LLC (TravelCenters), operator of the TA® and Petro Stopping Centers® travel center brands, is once again showing its dedication to professional drivers by expanding its StayFit® Program, a wellness initiative aimed at providing drivers “better-for-you” options while they are on the road.

Full-service, sit-down restaurants at TA and Petro locations nationwide will now call out StayFit options with 600 calories or less with a special ‘StayFit 600’ icon on the menu. Guests can choose from such items as grilled chicken and eggs for breakfast, and sirloin and mixed vegetables for dinner. Now, customers looking to count calories or create a meal plan within their doctor’s prescribed caloric guidelines can do so more easily. For a quick snack, TA and Petro Travel Stores also have a dedicated StayFit area with more than 80 better-for-you snack and drink choices. All of the Travel Stores also carry fresh fruit.

The number of FREE StayFit fitness rooms in the TA and Petro network has increased to 48 with the opening of three new indoor fitness rooms and four new outdoor fitness ‘rooms’:

Indoor:

  • TA Baldwin, Florida, at I-10, Exit 343;
  • TA Jacksonville South, Florida, at I-95, Exit 329; and
  • TA Lake Park, Georgia, at I-75, Exit 2.

Outdoor (coming June 2013):

  • TA Knoxville, Tennessee, located at I-40/I-75, Exit 374;
  • TA Edinburg, Texas, located at Hwy. 281, Exit FM2812;
  • Petro Salina, Kansas, located at I-70, Exit 252; and
  • Petro Milan, New Mexico, located at I-40, Exit 79.

The StayFit indoor fitness rooms each include dual adjustable pulley resistance equipment for weight training, elliptical cross-trainer for cardio workouts, recumbent bike for cardio workouts, adjustable sit-up board, weight scale, workout mat, shelving for customer storage of gear during the workout, wall-mounted TV, and a fan.

The exercise equipment in the StayFit Outdoor Rooms includes a plyometric area for jump training, an abdominal crunch/leg lift area, and a push-up/rowing area. Combined, the three areas target all muscle groups and can provide a good all-around workout.

These new exercise options complement the existing 120 locations with mapped walking trails and 16 sites with outdoor basketball hoops throughout the TA and Petro network. The indoor and outdoor exercise rooms, walking trails and basketball hoops are free to all TA and Petro customers. Professional drivers can find at least one of these amenities at more than 140 TA and Petro locations.

Interest in health and wellness continues to grow in our industry,” said Tom O’Brien, President and CEO of TravelCenters. “Our StayFit program is a multi-faceted approach to help drivers make healthier decisions -- and make those decisions easier -- while they are on the road. We are now marking our menus with StayFit 600 options so drivers can instantly see which are the better-for-you choices. We are offering more exercise options and locations, and all of those are free. We also offer healthy eating brochures in our restaurants for drivers to learn how to make better choices,” he added.
